As a league bowler myself, I can tell you how this happens:  At the 
beggining of the game (the first frame), Mayberry bowled on lane 9 and Mt. 
Pilot bowled on lane 10.  Thereafter, the teams would switch lanes each 
frame.  So, on the odd-numbered frames, Howard would be on Lane 9, and on 
the even-numbered frames he would be on lane 10.

What is interesting to me about this episode is the fact that the bowling 
center has ten lanes.  At the places I have bowled, the number of lanes has 
always been divisible by 4, i.e., 8, 12, 24, etc.

One other question, I wonder if the Mayberry Lanes sold beer?
