Another thing that makes the gas pump locations jump around is how the director wanted to shoot the scene. For example, assume that facing Wally's Regular is on the left and Premium on the right. Remember that directly across the road from Wally's were the quonset huts for Gomer Pyle, USMC, so certain shots from Wally's would show those huts.
There at least 1 episode where Goober is talking to someone on the inside of the pump island while he stands at the pump. In the shot toward Wally's, Goober is standing at the Regular pump, but a tight shot taken from the other side of the pump island shows Goober standing next to the Premium pump. Reason was that if they had taken the same shot from the Regular pump, there would have some background the director did not want in the scene.
