Hey Paul and Everyone, RFD stands for Rural Free Delivery....it is an old term for US Mail Delivery to residents on County and State Routes. Ours was "RFD" at one time and then became the County Route number with the "911" address. Just another small detail of past American life...I remember when we had a iron stagecoach step in front of our two-room schoolhouse; as a child I couldn't imagine what it was used for!
