Hi, Gang!!
Time to catch you up on the goings on, so here goes...
We arrove in Mt. Airy around 10:39 Thursday and headed right over to the
Snappy Lunch for our pok' chop sammich, and it was sooooo gooooooood!!!! Wish I
could have brang a few of them home, but they'd a'never made it back in one
piece!
We walked up to the Emporium where most of the Andy memorabilia is now
located. Emmett did tell us this morning he had been promised a place for the
collection of memorabilia beside the Playhouse before next Mayberry Days!
After doing a little roaming there and getting my annual Tshirt, we made our
way back up the street and headed over to the hotel and got checked in. Just
a little later we made our way to the China King buffet across the parking
lot for some good food.
Friday AM we ate at Biscuitville right by the hotel before heading downtown.
This time the free parking was being used by the Relay for Life to help
raise funds for Cancer research, so hope no one got upset over having to
donate
$5 to park all day! It is a worthy cause and research needs all our support.
They raised over $800 on Friday alone!
After the opening ceremonies, we made our way into the crowd in town and
roamed a while more. We attended a few of the old shows at the cinema with the
star of the show in attendance. LeeRoy MacNees was up when we walked in, then
we saw George Spence in Guest in The House, with George making some comments
after the show.
Then it was time for Romeena!! What a riot that was, first trying to get
Ernest T cleaned up and then him and Romeena finding each other! And her
comments were as funny as the show itself. As soon as that was over we decided
to go
get a bite to eat and my apologies, please my apologies to the internet
group, we plumb done forgot about the trivia contest and the group get together
until Saturday morning!! Next year we will definitely have a page of stuff we
need to attend so we don't forget any thing at all!
Friday night LeeRoy came in the hotel with his git-tar and his dobro, and we
had a jam session lasting until a little after midnight. Among the others who
came in were George Spence, Michael Hoover and Maggie Peterson Mancuso, but
she didn't get into the shenanigans!
Early Saturday AM we got our biscuit and took it down to the parking lot to
make sure we had a space, and ate there. We walked to our favorite spot to
view the parade and didn't have to wait long. This was a little longer than
normal, and much more fun since Barney had a Mayberry Deputy Golf Cart to fly
around in. He almost dumped our fearless leader "Floyd" on his....well, lets
just say he almost came off the back!! Then he lost is comb and had to get off
to retrieve that and "Barney" came back for him with the siren screaming!
After that, we went to the playhouse for the silent auction and some "putt
putt" ice cream. That is some good stuff!!
We met new friends and met up with some old ones. What a great group of
people!!
We also met up with Bobby and Kyle Butler and went to Neil Brower's lecture
honoring Don Knotts, with Betty Lynn in attendance. At times she was wiping
tears of sadness, other times wiping tears of laughter. What a talented man Don
Knotts was!
After this was over we all ate at Barney's cafe on Main St, where the old
BlueBird diner was. That is some good eating at a reasonable price!
Then it was time to get back to the hotel and get ready for Col. Tim's
Talent Time, and Thank You Allan for having the episode of Barney and The Choir
again!! That is such a hoot! Barney needed a microphone to make it really
funny,
though, but it was so so funny!! Thanks so much for adding that in!
Lou Ann Poovey! My goodness! What a mess! With her AND Romeena together,
that spells trouble!! They were so great....and Tracy Alexander, Jean Carson's
son...what a class act he is! So appreciative of everyone for being so kind to
his mother!
Any one who is going to Mayberry Days needs to get your tickets NOW if you
want to see any of the shows, and I do mean NOW. Next month may be too late!
Sunday AM...LeeRoy and Jan MacNees did the morning worship services again,
the 3rd time they have done this, and it is so good! David Browning read the
scripture, Jan had a lesson for the kids but it works for adults as well.
LeeRoy lead us in some singing and then brought the message. What a perfect
ending to a perfect weekend. The weather co-operated, the food was great, the
friendship was fantastic, but what else would you expect in Mayberry?
Again, I apologize for missing the most important event for TAGSRWC WBMUTBB
chapter. That is just .... I don't know..what do you call it ??
I am at the age now I can call it a Senior Moment!!!! You young
whippersnappers can't get away with that excuse!!
If I think of anything else I missed I will add that to it!
