The Sixth Annual Mayberry Squad Car Nationals festival is Saturday in
Graysville, Ala. Keith Thibodeaux (Mayberry's Johnny Paul Jason and
Little Ricky on "I Love Lucy") is the very special guest of
honor. David "Mayberry Deputy" Browning, Allan "Floyd" Newsome, Kenneth
"Otis" Junkin, Jamie "Opie" Sullivan, Jeff "Howard" Branch, other
assorted Mayberry Tribute artists, and two local bands will be on hand
during the day. Eight or ten replicas of Mayberry squad cars from about
six states are also expected to participate.
Festivities kick off with a parade down Main Street in downtown
Graysville at 10:00 a.m.. The Mayberry Squad Nationals (a timed
obstacle course race of Mayberry squad cars) will immediately follow the
parade, at around 11:00 a.m., at the baseball field behind the
Graysville Community Center, located near the parade's ending point.
Following the Nationals, there will be a lunch break with plenty of
food vendors on site. Just in time to beat the heat, festivities will
move indoors for the ticketed portion of the day, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
at the air-conditioned Community Center for Mayberry trivia, look-alike,
and theme-song whistling contests, plus music and a question-and-answer
session with Keith Thibodeaux.
At 5:00 p.m. a catered barbecue dinner will be served at the
Community Center. It will be followed at 6:00 p.m. by the Mayberry
Tip-Top Talent Show featuring comedy sketches and music.
The parade and Mayberry Squad Car Nationals are free. Admission to
the afternoon show, dinner, and evening shows is covered by a single $20
ticket per person.
Y'all come!
