Jessica, your sanity is intact! You are right. Hoke Howell was the first Dud Wash, and Bob Denver played him later. My personal favorite of the two is Hoke Howell--for this role, I mean. Hoke seemed to come across as more genuine in his portrayal of a mountain boy (not to disparage Bob Denver in any way, mind you). And that expression on his face when he stepped off the bus had "Dud" written all over it!
