A few weeks ago, some posts on the WBMUTBB Digest were directed at who could have replaced Don Knotts as second banana to Andy when Don decided to leave after the 1964-1965 season. Some speculated that Jerry Van Dyke could have. Actually, he really could have. His big day of decision was either TAGS or 'My Mother the Car.' Jerry himself even said "Hindsight is 20/20." Well, people saw Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, and Jerry Van Dyke at Harrah's in Las Vegas in the summer of 1968. I'm sure then that people weren't thinking that Jerry could have been a cast regular on TAGS. They were clueless. It's folks like us today, over 41 years after the fact, who are scrutinizing TAGS with all the trivial trivialities. Later, around 1992, Jerry toured with Jim Nabors at Harrah's, but not Las Vegas. I think it was the Harrah's in Reno. "She did it again!"
