I think in the first episode the writers simply had Aunt Bee drive to Mayberry in her own truck. I think one can hear the door close when she arrives. She was going to drive herself when she left. Just another one of those little things the writers changed as the series progressed. Probably decided it would be better not to have her drive, thus she would be more dependant on Andy. That is my theory.
