I got my Season 5 DVD's on monday and have been watching them. One thing I thought was really neat about all the seasons is the images that have been on the DVD's themselves and the fronts and backs of the DVD Cases
Season 1 which had 4 discs in individual cases has a different picture on the front of each case of Andy and one or two others in the cast (mainly Aunt Bee, Opie, and Barn) This same picture is also on the DVD itself in that case. The back of the cases have been made to look like Mayberry Police stationary and show the disc contents and at the bottom of each paper it has a message written on it. Disc 1 says: Barney - Went fishing with Opie. Be back Later. Disc 2 says: Andy - Otis lost his keys again - Barn Disc 3 says: Pa - I came by - Opie Disc 4 says: Went to Floyd's for a trim - Barn In season 2 the format went to 5 discs in 3 cases and has stayed that way thru season 5 On season 2 the discs have an image of an apple pie. Each disc has more and more of the pie gone until the 5th disc is just an empty pie plate. The back of the case has an image of a recipe card from Aunt Bee with the disc contents on it. This set has the original sponser spots. Season 3 discs have an image of a tire on them which looks to be from the squad car, it has the white wall and the hub cab at the center. The back of the case looks like a bill from Wally's Filling Station with the disc contents on it. This set has the original sponser spots too. Season 4 discs have a sheriff's star on a wooden looking background. The fronts of the cases each have a big picture with a small insert at the bottom The first case has a counter top with a toaster, salt and pepper shakers, and a Snappy Lunch Diner menu. The second case has a countertop from Floyd's Barber Shop. There is a comb, sissors, hair tonic, a bill for $2.00 for Barneys hair cut, and lots of cut hairs laying around. The third case looks to be at the lake and there is a fishing bob, a lure, the tail of a fish, worms, a worm can, and a bucket laying on the dock. The backs of the cases have an image of "The Mayberry News" on them. Although if I remember right it was actually "The Mayberry Gazette". The disc contents are listed in the newspaper. Each disc has a different paper. Case 1: Above the title it says Haunted House in City! On the top left it says Deputy Fife Rescues Andy The main story has a pic of Andy and Opie with Opie holding the cage of birds. The story below the picture tells of how Opie just got the birds the paper will report what the birds names will be once Opie names them. Case 2: Above the title it says Sheriff Andy saves Gomer fro...(the rest is cut off but we know it was from fire in filling station.) On the top left it says Sheriff Falls For Jewel Thief! The main story is titled Speeding Truckers on Highway 6! It has a picture of Barn and Andy on that famous motorcycle. The story below it is of course about Barns war against the speeding trucks trying to get over Turners Grade. Case 3: Above the title it says Fun Girls From Mount Pilot On the top left it has Sheriff Gets Engaged! The main story is titled Deputy Barney Fife Missing in the Woods! and has two photos from this episode along with the story. Season 5 dvd's have different images on each disc. Disc 1 has an image of Fishing Bobs on it Disc 2 has an image of a Fishing reel. Disc 3 has an image of a Shaving Brush Disc 4 has an image of a straight razor Disc 5 has an image of a doughnut on it The backs of the cases each have a parking meter along with a parking citation from Barney. At the bottom of the citation it says Let that be a lesson to you! On the citation it incorrectly says Mayberry Police on the badge.
