***Was the actress who played Floyd's girlfriend the same actress who played the
girl Gloria in the excellent movie, "The Lost Weekend"?

I caught that movie again this week and, even though Gloria had an accent and
looked down and out, I thought she was Floyd's sweetie who was trying to take
him for a couple of hundred dollars. The little stinker.***

Yes! Doris Dowling definitely played both parts. Great movie too. Sadly we
lost Doris a year and a half ago.

***And did it ever bother any of you the way Andy was too nice to some of the
meanies who crossed by Mayberry? How about couple who abandoned their baby?
I don't care what the fight was about, that mother was crazy to pull such a
stunt. ***

That wasn't the only time Andy did anything like that. In the episode about
the runaway boy, Andy let him spend the night before calling his father the
next morning. The episode guide of the first "Andy Griffith Show" book even
pointed out Andy's obvious lack of judgment there. Perhaps times were
different back then, there wasn't the awareness there is now over child welfare
and abandonment. I'm not excusing anything, I'm just explaining. I'm sure
Andy had a gift for reading people and probably assumed they wouldn't hurt the
child anymore but still, that did seem kind of glaring.
