I was watching an episode of "Mad About You" today. Paul was starting work
on a new documentary about the history of American television, so he decides
to begin by watching TV. Guess what show he picks? The Andy Griffith Show.
The screen wasn't visible, so we don't know what episode it was. Anyway,
the theme song plays (with a different actor doing the voiceover), then when
the actual episode starts, Paul puts on his headphones and starts laughing.
Must have been an episode with funny stuff right at the very beginning.
(digression alert) The storyline of the above episode involved an
unauthorized cable hookup which resulted in a citywide power failure. When
the episode originally aired (1994), the blackout continued through the
shows which followed (Friends and Seinfeld, as I recall, and maybe even
Frasier, even though it wasn't set in New York). A clever way of tying
different NBC sitcoms together.

My daughter was recently involved in a conflict with a very good friend,
Nothing she tried or nothing we suggested seemed to work. We knew that
her stubbornness was part of the problem.
Then, I happen to take in some rolls of film that had been laying around
for a while. One of the rolls turned out to be some pictures she had
taken while on a trip to Florida with this friend (don't think they saw
the alligator farm though) I suggested that she call the friend and
tell her she had some pictures to show her (like Aunt Bee, Clara, and
their other friend who went to Mexico). This was the first thing that
she thought merited a phone call and well,...some other good things
happened but that's what opened to door to get them back together.
Everything I know, I learned from Mayberry

Do you realize that Emma (Cheerio Meredith)was 74 years old when that
episode was taped?
What a remarkable actress!

AuntBee1, you forgot Bernie and Skippy. You know it can't be a successful
relationship if one of the parties doesn't know the other parties right name!
It seems like there were more unsucessful romantic relationships than
successful. Think about how long it took Andy and Helen, & Barney and Thelma
Lou to get married. I guess we could add Howard and Millie, Goober and Lydia,
Opie and Thelma Lou, Aunt Bee and the Butter & Egg Man, Aunt Bee and Brisco
Darling, Charlene and Ernest T, Jeff and Thelma Lou, Floyd and Madelyn Grayson
.... it might be easier to count the ones that worked out.

I haven't posted in forever...but thought I'd jump in with both feet!
To the question about relationships that didn't work out, the first one that
came to mind is Floyd and the lady from the Lonely Hearts Club.
And then there was Howard, who almost married that gal (whose name escapes me)
but on the way to meet the parents on the train, they called the whole thing
off.

If you're reading this on-line on Jan 15, 2005, you
can see a Mayberry related cartoon I published

Today, Raleigh will host the Gubernatorial Inauguration with Andy Griffith
reading a poem and Brandon Marsalis playing the National Anthem. It is too cold
for my old bones so will watch it on the T and V set.
Just wondering though:
Since this is the Gubernatorial thingy, does this make him the head
"Guber"(Goober) or the Goobernator?
That Mayberry Murder story is getting interesting, but I am ready for the
solution! Guess I will just have to wait for the ending!
Happy days everyone....stay safe, stay warm, or stay cool, depending on where
you are......and don't forget to laugh, even if it is at yourself....everyone
else does!!!

I too have wondered about the small amount of submissions lately. My theory
is that people are too busy going to choir practice, attending lodge
meetings, bowling, pitching horseshoes, playing checkers, listening to
Leonard Blush on the radio, going to Founders Day picnics, attending Garden
Club meetings, eating out at the diner and Morelli's, growing roses and
pansies for the flower contest, getting their hair cut at Floyd's, fishng at
Myers Lake, going to lectures by Professor St. John, baking cakes for the
church social, gluing covers back on the hymnals, and doing many of the
other things people of Mayberry have to do each day.
"Oh no, I hope that isn't more chicken soup."
