OK, here's how I see it. I really do think the lake in The Manhunt was
Franklin Canyon (Myers Lake), but I'd forgotten about 2 other "pond"
episodes. I agree that Bad Boy Bailey probably was the same pond as The Bed
Jacket and The Jinx, but I'm not so sure about the body of water used for
Andy and Peggy to skip rocks. There really were no trees around. So does
that make our 3rd body of water?
And does this mean that we've finally discovered Old Man Kelsey's Ocean?
(Sorry, I couldn't help it.)

Regarding Northern references, don't forget the double feature that included
the "Beast that Ate Minnesota". Also, someone recently posted a question
about a phrase that Big Maude used on "Convicts at Large". I haven't seen a
respnse to that question and I have been wondering about it too so I'll ask the
same question...actually I'll copy and paste it from the previous post. "When
Marge is telling Floyd and Sally to leave to town for the groceries, it sounds
like AKKABABBA or something. Can anyone tell me what this word is?" Someones
gotta know... this can't be a Mr. Schwump size mystery.

Mrs. Wiley says Ernest T. Bass is "definitely Back Bay Boston." (the
Back Bay's one of the trendiest and wealthiest neighborhoods in the
city. Of course, it was built on a swamp. Ernest T. Might have liked
that.)
If I'm not mistaken Warren Ferguson was from Boston, as was the man who
played him, Jack Burns.
And Andy tells the story of "the shot heard round the world" fired in
Lexington in 1775.
I lived up there for seven years, and they ran the Andy Griffith show
twice a day every weekday on channel 38.
That's better than they do down here in NC.

Forgive me if I'm repeating a Northern reference that's already been listed,
but the shoe salesman that Andy and the boys thought was with a tv show was
from New York. He was a nice guy, I thought, and probably would've fit
right in with the Mayberrians. He was perfectly mannerized (as the Darlins
would say) when he thanked Fred for his hospitality. Maybe he should've
stayed right there in Mayberry and opened his own shoe store. On Friday
nights, they could've shut down the store and had a talent show! :) Lisa

Our church's radio station is doing a their annual telethon this week. I
keep hearing clips from TAGS. They played a song today called "Nip It In
the Bud" by Bruce Frye. Have any of you ever heard of it? It was
hilarious!! The guys at the station were cracking up. I felt like
making a pledge because of that!

Allan I hope this is okay..... Folks here at the digest have been talking a lot
lately about people moving from the North to the South, but in my family it is
just the opposite. My parents were born and raised in the deep south when they
first married in Mississippi then moved here to Ohio with a good bit more of
our family over 50 years ago. Being as how I've lived in both
places I can tell you I've decided folks are just folks. Lots of folks in
Mayberry besides Ed Sawyer, weren't from the south and you could tell it by
their accents. I remember in the earliest episodes even Aunt Bee and Andy had
much stronger accents than in the later shows. I don't mean to step on anyones
toes, but I think we need to just try and enjoy everyone no matter where they
are from. We all have something to give each other don't you think? I'm like
David and Angela I've met wonderful people from all over the country and count
them as some of my dearest friends. This all reminds me of how kind our Andy
was all along to Ed Sawyer even when everyone got upset with him. As I recall
Andy said something about being of a mind to leave with Mr. Sawyer. I'm just
glad it all turned out with Ed Sawyer, I wonder if he is still running that gas
station he bought???

I recall someone buying something from a music store in Winston-Salem; it may
have been Jim Lindsey but I don't remember. Since Winston-Salem is the largest
city near Mt. Airy, it was very apropos for the writers to insert that little
tidbit and we got a kick out of hearing it the first time!

Any of you folks familiar with the pre-TAGS show, "The Real McCoy's,"
will recognize many background scenes in Mayberry.
Grandpa McCoy and Little Luke fished from the same dock as Andy,
and Grandpa wooed an old flame from there too.
In the episode that featured the dock, I got the impression that it
was an inside "set" lake, not a true outdoor one.
The farm that Frankie and Mr. Flint lived on, was also the same farm
that the McCoy's inherited when they move from West Virginie to
Californie.
And in two episodes (one with Kate "Sugarbabe" and the other with
Grandpa Amos) Andy's street and house is plain as day.
Since I love both shows, I get the biggest thrill seeing the two "merge",
so to speak!
