A couple of folks mentioned about TV Land cutting out part of each TAGS episode
they air. I know this has been discussed on the digest before. We don't watch
TV at our house, so, of course, we don't have cable or dish or any such thing.
I don't mind that, but I confess to a little bit of jealousy when others write
in and talk about getting to watch TAGS every day on TV Land. I have to rely
on my complete Columbia House video collection and my set of season-one DVD's,
so there are many of the episodes that I haven't seen in YEARS, and I DO mind
THAT!

Because my father has been in the hospital all this past week, I have spent
every day in his room. When he had control of the TV, he had it mostly on TV
Land, so I was able to watch a few episodes with him when they were running the
TAGS mini-marathon. That was great, except every episode I saw was one that I
already had on video! Also, I was able to tell my family what was omitted from
each episode. Now, that bothered me! I don't like to miss anything!

So I've decided that maybe it's better that I DON'T have TV Land. It would
drive me crazy to know that I'm not seeing every episode complete and intact!
Won't it be wonderful when we have more of the complete seasons on DVD?? I
can't wait!!!

Congrats to the trifecta of 3 correct guessers on what unseen character
actually became a character on the show. It was indeed "my cousin
Goober" that Gomer refereed to.

I wondered if Johnny Paul was mentioned significantly before he was
seen? Richard Keith appeared as Opie's buddy in 10-12 episodes
starting with One Punch Opie, but was he mentioned before then?

We've got some real "trained notciers" out there, lots of good stuff
lately.

>>>Andy kept the Martin D18 from his role as Lonesome Rhodes in "A Face in
the Crowd" - an excellent movie. The prop department had (for some reason)
painted black and Andy sanded, restored it, and this was the guitar he used
in movies and TV (TAGS for Sure, maybe Matlock too).

Rodney Dillard once told me that he, Rodney, played that particular guitar
on TAGS. According to Rodney, the first time The Dillards appeared on the
set, the lighting crew wanted them to apply some sort of dull-coat finish to
their instruments so the cameras wouldn't pick up reflections (Andy's guitar
had probably been painted black for this very reason). Rodney didn't want
anything done to his own guitar (also a Martin, btw), so Andy lent him one
of HIS guitars, the very one he had used in "A Face in the Crowd" years
before. Since Andy Griffith played with The Dillards whenever they
appeared, he obviously owned more than one guitar at the time. I'm guessing
Andy never played the "Face in the Crowd" guitar on TAGS; the way Rodney
tells it, this guitar was just kept around as a spare.

Cheryl asked has anybody seen the Andy Griffith birthday cards before.

On my last birthday, I got five Andy Griffith birthday cards.
