Hi!

The song Andy and Barney sing to Otis in the jail is called "The Vacant Chair."
It's a Civil War song, written in 1861 by Henry S. Washburn with melody by
George F. Root. You can view the complete lyrics at

http://www.civilwar.com/vacant.htm

That one really DOES make me cry!

Now, where I come from, if two people said the same word at the same time,
one would say "Jinx". The other person could not say a single word until
his/her name was said by someone.

She had a lot going for her, I agree. One of my favorite love interests
for Ange was Miss Peggy.

Pretty, could (and did) cook well, voice like an angel, liked fishin',
filled out a pair of dungarees right well, and on top of it all she had
a rich daddy.

What else?

When I was in my 20s a girl from the DC area would say after we both happened
to say the same thing at the same time: "Pinch, poke, you owe me a Coke!" I
grew up using Coke for all sorts of soft drinks. In Texas, my Daddy's neck of
the woods, everyone there says when you visit: "Can I get you a Pepper?" cuz
Dr. Pepper originated there. First time it caught me off guard and then some!!

Hey Friends,

Any guesses as to why the gang could not understand the story of the freshly
shaven collie unless they knew who Al Becker was? For the life of me, I can't
really figure why
Andy couldn't just tell the story and let the chips fall where they may.

I was watching the episode where OPIE has a friend which no one has seen
called MR. McBEEVEE (I'm not sure of the spelling). In the middle of the
show, it shows MR. McBEEVEE, who was a telephone lineman, getting into his
truck and driving off. Usually the truck is seen going to the right.
However, during one showing, the truck went left. I think this was because
in splicing the tape to take out parts of the show for commericals, the film
was put back together in the opposite manner it was supposed to. Put on your
TAGS thinking caps. Did the truck go to the left or did it go to the right.

Thanks, GARRY

Hey Kids,

Any guesses as to why Andy could not finish the story about
Al Becker and the recently shaved collie? He said the others wouldn't get it
unless they knew Al Becker, but for
the life of me I don't understand that reasoning. Perhaps
it would have lessen their appreciation of it somewhat, but
I have yet to hear of any story yet where I was required to
personally know everyone involved in order to get any enjoyment out of it, but
then, of course, I could be wrong.

So, like I asked, any guesses?

When I was a kid and two people said the same thing at the same time, the
fastest of the two would say: "Jinx, you can't say anything until I say your
name". We always tried to be the one to say it first because it was very
frustrating to try and play with your friends without talking, even if you were
just playing tag. Wow this is bringing a lot of memories back of games I
played as a child. Such a peaceful time, we weren't afraid to play outside
after dark because it was a safer time to live wasn't it? It sort of reminds
me of the episode with Malcolm Meriwether when Opie came up to give Aunt Bee a
hug on the porch and he was all sweaty from playing with his friends after
supper.

We were watching the Count IzVantelecky (sp) episode yesterday and Floyd
absolutely cracked me up. When Barney, Floyd and Goober were in the back room
of the courthouse and Floyd told Barney he could see the Count, Floyd's
mannerisms were hilarious. He was truly a master wasn't he!! It seems I
remember Andy and Ron Howard talking in one of the reunion shows about how
Floyd could crack them up. I couldn't agree more!

..........I wish...................for a jacknife................

I was watching Emeril Live this morning (midnite show) and in keeping
with the theme of St. Patricks Day, he did a program about Irish
cooking.

The Chieftains were the featured band for the show, and they did a
number of different Irish related songs. I'm not sure of the correct
title, but one song they did was "Get Along Home Cindy".

This was my first time seeing or hearing The Chieftains......they
play really good music and have a lot of records and CD's out.

Jim
