Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., was set on a U.S. Marine base between 1964 and 1969,
but neither Gomer nor any of his fellow soldiers ever mentioned the war in
Vietnam.---taken from the TAGS site below.
Actually Vietnam was mentioned several years later on TVLand's tribute to
TAGS
The US Marines that Gomer marched with in the opening credits of Gomer
Pyle,USMC were real marines and actually did go to Vietnam-----some never
returned :-(
When I heard that, I felt really sad. Our troops actually gave support to
this show by appearing in it.
Semper Fi
This is one reason why I have a visible hatred for the leftist anti-war
America Haters. They don't even support our troops.
Support our troops. www.americasupportsyou.mil -----(From President Bush's
speech tuesday Nite. June 28th) www.osot.org I encourage all Mayberrians to
go to each of these 2 sites.

This site left out another major character, the 1st Mayor of Mayberry, Mayor
Pike. Not sure what happened to him, cause Stoner came in afterwaurds.

OK Capt. I am one of those lefttist anti-war types that you insulted in your
missive. I note that you have completely enjoined with the party line - and
you are content. Good for you. I, however, find it quite possible to be
anti-war while at the same time NOT being an "America Hater" who does not "even
support our troops." I find your jingoism as repulsive as you find My attitude
towards our present administration and the Vietnamesque quagmire that they
have created which costs America a serviceman a day. That price is too high
for
oil, Haliburton and to line the pockets of capitalist cronies. So, we agree
to disagree. That being said - let's also agree to keep this Board for
Mayberry-related postings.

I liked what a couple of you did in making up some "Mayberry abbreviations" to
go along with all the e-mail abbreviations people use. However, you left out
the most obvious one -- WBMUTBB? (Who's been messing up the bulletin board?).
That got me to wondering about how well the members of this list would do in
identifying well-know phrases and quotes from the show if they were given in an
abbreviated form. That is, using only the first letter of each word. So I
picked out several of my favorites. Their "Internet abbreviations" follow.
See how many you can get. Then you may want to test us with some of your
favorites.

I'm not a trained noticer, but am a professional noticer. I never was
trained how to do it, it just comes by me natcherly. So i guess that makes
one a pro.
Take the episode where Barney is singing in the choir, and Andy is telling
him to sing lower and lower and lower by raising his hands up and down.
Looky in the background, and you will see one of the choristers laughing.
Kinda hard to miss. LOL
On the abbreviations or emoticons which is what they are called, they are
maiinly used to shorten communications of common words, like LOL or LMAO are
used when using humor as I did here.
me and my brother in law was watchin it, and we spun the tape back and forth
time and time again watching it over and over LOL
this whole episode was hilarious.

September 27, Warner Brothers is releasing a 6-episode collection of F TROOP
(1965 - 1967), Ken Berry's (RFD's Sam Jones) earlier series.
This disc is one of several in WB's new "Television Favorites" series,
designed to test the waters and determine the level of consumer interest for
series, before allocating season set resources.

Hello Everyone - I thought all would like to see this episode list for Season
#TAGS Season 3. Jim
64. "Mr. McBeevee" (10/01/1962)
65. "Andy's Rich Girlfriend" (10/08/1962) -- First appearance by "Peggy
McMillan" (portrayed by the ever-so-fetching Joanna Moore).*
* = Some "Joanna Trivia" -- How many of you "TAGS" fans realize that Joanna
Moore married Ryan O'Neal in April of 1963 (just a few months after she made
her 4 "Andy" appearances), and she is the mother of Tatum O'Neal? (I hadn't
known that till recently. Sadly, Joanna died of lung cancer on November 22,

66. "Andy And The New Mayor" (10/15/1962)
67. "Andy And Opie, Bachelors" (10/22/1962) -- History notation: This episode
aired on the very same night as President John F. Kennedy's famous "Cuban
Missile Crisis" speech to the nation, which warned the Russians of a possible
"Full retaliatory response upon the Soviet Union". A very tense night in
American history, as Peggy helped out.
68. "The Cow Thief" (10/29/1962)
69. "Barney Mends A Broken Heart" (11/05/1962)

73. "Opie's Rival" (12/03/1962)

are held
hostage by three women convicts. ("You're a doll!").

Folks,
This list is not a place for political discussion. Please do NOT post
political notes.
I realize that with the 4th of July holiday being on us, there is a
desire to say things but I would like to remind everyone to refrain from
too much discussion of the current war or your likes or dislikes of it.
We all have opinions and while you are 100% within your right to have
the opinion you hold....this list is not the place to share them with
others.
This mailing list is about Mayberry, The Andy Griffith Show, and related
topics.
We all love America, that shouldn't be controversial, so let's all agree
that we love this country and that we hope our young men and women in
the military remain safe and can return to us when this is over. We can
leave it at that and we can continue to use this mailing list as an
escape from dealing with the politics that the "real" world makes us
deal with daily.
Thank you for understanding and for honoring the "rules" of our little
corner of Mayberry.

a.. Hi Folks: I think we sometimes tend to forget that there is a great webstie
devoted to TAGS at www.tagsrwc.com. It has a list of events and below is info
on the Don Knotts Festival. I, too, like many of you am busy and don't search
the web or read web pages that much but I am thankful they are there when I
want to look something up and also extremely grateful to those who maintain
them. All the best from Cathy, a.k.a. Skippy one of Mayberry's fun girls in
Celina, Ohio.
a.. Visit the Grand Lake St. Marys Lake Cam and take a photo tour of my own
little slice of Mayberry at www.seemore.org . It's our convention and visitors
bureau website. We have a big festival slated here in Celina, the weekend of
July 22 to 24 so if you're anywhere near, come on by. Our parade is about 2
hours long on Saturday night and the amphicars (swim in water and drive on
land) have their international convention here. They give rides in their cars
and are also in the parade. We also a big car show and lots of other festival
events. Celina is on the west side of the state near the Indiana line about 45
miles from Ft. Wayne and about 70 miles northwest of Dayton.
a..
a.. Aug. 12 to 14: Don Knotts Festival in Morgantown, W.V. Don Knotts is
scheduled to attend. Other special guests may also participate. The festival
is part of Arts on the River Week. Activities on Fri., Aug. 12, include: A fan
club (yes, that means us!) event late in the afternoon, a celebration on Don
Knotts' TV career at the historic Metropolitan Theatre at 8:00 p.m. Activities
on Sat., Aug.13, include: Kids' Day in Downtown Morgantown, a late
afternoon/early evening parade complete with the unveiling of a Don Knotts'
"Star" in front of the historic Metropolitan Theatre, and a celebration of Don
Knotts' film career later in the evening. Most of the festival events will
happen in the downtown Morgantown area. Look for updates here or on the city's
site at http://www.tourmorgantown.com
