A question perhaps Paul can answer. Is there any particular reason why the
writers of TAGS did away with Andy playing his guitar and singing? That
was always such a wonderful part of the early shows. Music was in so many
early episodes but then suddenly it disappeared.

I agree about the sometimes poor editing on TVLand. Wednesday night during
the Hubcaps Lesch
episode, they took out the entire part where Barney mentions his biggest
purchase prior to buying a car...the septic tank he bought for his parents
anniversary. That was one of Barney's great alltime scenes. I guess those
editors just don't appreciate the show as much as we fanatics

Last week, I reported one of my ministers was wanting to use a TAGS episode
in a Sunday night service but it was The Lucky Letter and I didn't have a
copy. So I went to the well and put a notice here of my need.
Well John Worsham rose to the occasion and provided the tape I needed. Not
only did he provide the tape, he wouldn't even take payment for the postage.

Jennifer, the article you are looking for about Mt. Airy in Readers Digest is
in the August issue on pages 154 - 160. I just got my copy today in the mail
so I haven't had a chance to read the article yet. I did look it over and it
looks really interesting so of course I can't wait to read it. I especially
loved the picture of Mr. Russell Hiatt cutting the little boys hair. I don't
know if you have ever had the privilege of visiting with him, but he is a very
kind man.

I used to be real dumb before TAGS came into my life and
I became hip and a real trained Noticer and everything, but
I always wondered what the "continuity" person listed in the credits was used
for. And I sort of figured it was a
person who kept the facts straight. Like, if Andy said in an
episode his phone number was 222 (and it's not, I'm just making an example),
the Continuity Person would keep up with that phone number so that later on
anyone giving out Andy's number would remember it was
supposed to be 222.
The only problem was these people did
a terrible job of this type of fact keeping. With TAGS, as well as other shows,
all types of facts were messed up. So,
I was ready to go to Hollywood as soon as I got old enough and get a job as a
Continuity Person on a hit show and show
the powers that be how a real smart person could remember the trivial
information for the actors on a show so viewers, such
as myself, were not driven crazy.
But then I came to this site and I found out that the job of the Continuity
Person is not keeping up with information from
show to show, but facts in each scene. Quite different from
what I had in mind. Though I still think someone like me
would be a real asset. I mean, there's a lot of us Trained Noticers out there.
And we know who we are; don't we?
Lydia, I can't stand a busy-body, but I do love an active
mind.

I guess you could call it "pirated," but it's definitely "unofficial." Due
to some type of paperwork goof when it came time to renew copyrights to
individual episodes, several episodes of some classic TV shows owned by Viacom
lapsed
into public domain. This apparently affected episodes of "The Dick Van Dyke
Show," "The Beverly Hillbillies" and 16 episodes of "The Andy Griffith Show"
(entire second half of the 1962-63 season). Those "public domain" episodes
have popped up on VHS and DVD for years "unofficially." The theme song, "The
Fishing Hole," is covered by a different copyright, so to protect themselves,
the
small fly-by-night video companies that keep releasing these episodes usually
redub the theme music.
The Season 1 and Season 2 releases from Paramount are "official" and will
contain the correct theme music.

Hello all,
Long time fan and past member of this chapter, been out of the mix for
a bit. Thought I would bring up the question I have asked before and
still search for to this day. Does anyone ever remember seeing a
short animated public service announcement type commercial about
hunting or hunting safety that had Andy and Barney in it? For some
reason I want to say I saw it on PBS (This would have been 20 or so
years ago). Andy and Barney were outside at a lake (wearing the black
sweaters they wore in any of those "cold weather" episodes, Barney
walks up behind Andy and there is some joke about the gun or Barney
and a duck call. I KNOW I did not make this up or dream it up, I have
to find out what I saw! Glad to be back!
