Our freezer thawed out on us yesterday but thanks to TAGS I was able to smile
as I repeated over and over "Call the Man...!" Thanks for making our burdens
lighter Andy!
We invited a bunch of our friends over and had a feast too and then we watch
TAGS. What a great day! : -)

>>> But mostly, it's those one-time-only characters I'm referring to
that confuses the heck out of me and Laura Lee Hobbs. . We cannot
really always tell how their names are pronounced, let alone how
it is supposed to the spelled. (from Lydia)<<<<
Al Becker, Hodie Snitch, Edgar Coleman, Vicky Harms, Count Istvan
Telecky, Nate Bushy, Ole Man Parmaley, Clark Cooper, Willis Cundiff,
Charlie Devereaux, Jack Egbert, Phoebe Gilbert, Charlie Varney, Nat
Pike, Halcyon Winslow, The Milo boys, Charlie Phelps, Ole Man Perkins,
Viola Slatt, Edna Thoge, Ole Man Kelsey and your friend Laura Lee Hobs
OK Lydia--there you go, check your little address book (and your busy
body friend) and see if you can identify all these folks...what they
were mentioned in association with.
My name is not Paul or Jeff, but glad to help.
----------------------------------------------------------
Facial Hair--I always pictured Beasto Mareasto with kind of a hairy lip.
Also Frank Meyers, and that slick Lawyer what's his name???..I lost his
card (but he was also a shameless pickpocket in Guest of Honor). Rafe
Hollister was also know to be a bit scruffy.
-------------------------------------------------------
Great Mayberry Regrets??? (besides Gerald Whitlock or whatever his name
was that Thelma Lou married (but was later annulled before the Reunion
show)
That we never heard the Wisdom of the great Mr. Schwamp.
That we never saw anyone shooting a basketball
That Andy smoked a few times (that a quote from the man, not trying to
start a mulouage)
That Aunt Bee never met a nice man that didn't move away or have some
issues
That Otis had to leave the show over political correctness (an alcoholic
sponsor)
That Floyd became ill
That Warren couldn't have been judged by something other than being
Barney's replacement.
That business circumstances led to Barney leaving.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
OK here's my next trivia question. Mayberry had lots of out-laws but
very few in-laws. How many can you name?
Hint--one was imaginary, one had a toothache
Anybody come up with those money answers yet?

I never knew there was a season for iced tea. I know there are seasons for
certain foods, seasons for hunting certain animals, and seasons for certain
sports, but a season for tea??? That is weird!

I sure do hate to hear about season three of the dvd's, because I am hoping old
"Santy Claus" is going to bring me a set of them. It will be so great if that
happens, because I am really looking forward to having them.
Janine, no offense was taken, but I must speak up for my northern restaurants.
I feel I must defend them, because well, as Opie would say "they are my own
kind" being as how we are both here in the north. There are several
restaurants here in Cincinnati that offer "sweet tea" year round, so I reckon
you just haven't happened up on any of them. If you come through my beautiful
city, just do what Gomer did and give me a "hoot hoot", and I will steer you to
one of the sweet tea serving restaurants.
...........lots of luck to you and yours................

Here are a few of the one-time only mentioned citizens of Mayberry (I think):
The Claude Beamons, Sr, Jr, Plain, and Claudette
Bertha (Jeff Pruitt's friend back on the farm)
Clark Clifford (Clara's gentleman friend who slits his shoes)
Bobby Gribble and Emma Larch
Wilbur Hennessey
The Milo Boys
Mrs. Vickers
As far as things that I would have liked to seen completed on the series:
Barney and Thel getting married
Barney staying in Mayberry
Goober owning more than one gas station
Ernest T. finding and marrying his true love
Fred and Jenny Boone learning to express their love in a normal manner (I never
did understand the logic of that episode. What's dancin' to some is what
fightin' is to others, or something like that)
AND I would like the mystery of Mr. Schwamp solved. Who is he? Where did he
come from? Why the bad hair?

We just got ours last week and have been savoring 1 or 2 each evening. Our
first big shock came at the end of "Barney Mends a Broken Heart". Barney
arranged for he and Andy to meet the "fun girls" (Andy thought he was there to
watch for illegal liquor sales) and they got in a fight with Al...(you know the
story)...Anyway the very end of the show is missing when Peggy is doctoring
Andy's eye. Forgive me now for not getting it exactillyoso, but Peggy asks how
it happened and Barney tells how this big fella got smart with them and he was
all ready to take him when Andy stepped in. Andy is relieved that Barney didn't
mention the girls and then Barney says something like, "The ironic thing is
Andy didn't care nothing about that girl.
I've not noticed any other edits but we've just started the 2nd disk.
Everybody shaves! er Men that is. I'm a man!!

In reference to Mickey McLean's questions about the editing of the 3rd
season DVD's all I've found so far was the missing epilog from the the episode
"The Darlings Are Coming" Disc 4, episode 6, where Andy marries Charlene & Dud
in the courthouse and after the ceremony The Darlings and Andy break out in a
song while Charlene & Dud dance - i've compared it to the taped episode of
same (i've an excellent VHS copy of that complete episode) and the entire
epiloge is missing and the picture and sound quality on that DVD episode
leaves a
lot to be desired as compared to the remaining DVD episodes that i've watch
so far - there is also a disclosure on the back of the main box, lower left
hand corner (really fine print) that states that Season 3's episodes are
edited
from what was originally aired when the show was in first run - unlike
seasons 1 & 2 which are complete and don't have the editing disclosure on them
-
we're not disappointed in Weaver's (that's where we made our purchase)
Weaver's was right on time with the delivery - we're disappointed in Paramount
that
they couldn't get it right the first time as in seasons 1 & 2 - I'm also glad
we've kept our VHS versions so as to compare Paramount's versions versus our
VHS versions which were taped, purchased etc., I'll just transfer my VHS
copies to DVD's so as not to loose what we have as tapes don't hold up over
the
years - We're really disappointed in Paramount for doing a second class job
on a first class show - I mean if I've complete copies (VHS Tapes) of season 3
surely Paramount could acquire the complete episodes prior to releasing the
3rd season - seems to me Paramount was mighty quick in releasing Season 3 as
compared to the first two seasons and Season 4 is due before years end - Paw
used to say do it right the first time or don't do it at all -

Jethro's: Has truck. Beautiful Elly May in merry man costume. Uncle Jed has
millions in local bank. Plenty of smoked crawdads to go around.
Opie's: Youthful exuberance. Surplus of stolen, homecooked food. Chicken,
ham, cake & pie.
(Tough choice!)

>>>Oh before I forget, wondered if paramount had ever
thought of putting the bloopers of tags if any on the dvds for special
features, I'm sure they would be hilarious!!!
>>>
No outtakes from TAGS are known to exist. I suspect that Andy Griffith,
being a perfectionist, took steps to ensure that all were destroyed. There
is, however, a gag reel from Gomer Pyle -- USMC that Jim Nabors always shows
when he performs.
Some performers would be very embarrassed to have their mistakes seen by
their fans. Others, like Tim Allen and Jackie Chan, seem to get a big kick
out of it.

Caught an episode of the Dick Van Dyke show in TVLand.
What first caught my attention was Mrs. Poultice (and Maude) working at
the Unemployment office. Also Rob ran into (literally) one of the
un-named loafers in Mayberry. Then he got a job working for Mr. Sims.
(who wanted to buy the Taylor house). A Mayberry trifecta of sorts.
