I saw a movie a while back with a younger Betty Lynn playing the part of Bette
Davis' daughter. I couldn't help noticing they have similar features,
especially the eyes.
A thought occurred to me. Since Betty Lynn's last name was a common first
name, perhaps Thelma Lou's last name was Lou. But that would mean everyone
went around calling her by her first and last name all the time. I work in a
company with predominately Asian employees. It is common for them to refer to
each other by the last name first, then first name.

Maybe Mr. Schwump was the brine tester over at the pickle
factory.

I always saw Mr. Schwump as possibly a wealthy man who didn't neccessarily
have to work, that he came from a wealthy southern family. Maybe they owned
the pickle factory. He had an office, but only went in a couple of days a
week. He may have even had a couple of college friends named Binky and Bobo
and had at least five or six red refectors on his bike as a child. All of
this is based in the fact that he had to have had plenty of money to afford
such a nice toupee. That would have had to have been imported from as far
away as Raleigh or maybe even Charlotte or Roanoke.

Thanks, and I hope he read that book on sideburns I got for him.
Here's a couple of pictures of little Leon from Sunday and one of Otis
(on left) and Miss Ellie from a couple of Christmas seasons ago.

Capt. was asking who the teachers were in the class reunion episode that were
bugging Barney about his spelling??? I am sorry that I can't tell you their
names, but there is one thing I have noticed about one of them that I have
never seen mentioned here on the digest. One of the teachers that bugged
Barney was the little old lady that came into the courthouse talking to Andy
about the drivers that were speeding out on the highway. Remember how she
scared old Barn and backed him up against the door of the courthouse. She
talked about her sister "Tilly, you know the kids teased her in school because
she had these long teeth".
Has anyone else noticed that these two ladies are the same actress?
...............you give them 40.......and they'll take 45.......you give

That fancy tongue twister sounds like something one could master for Colonel
Tim's Talent Show some day! As for Mr. Schwump's occupation, I figure it had
to be something close to downtown as he was seen sitting on a bench near the
courthouse in the middle of the day one time and I believe he was in a suit.
It's a shame nobody can find out who the actor was so we could check with him.

All this talk of iced tea reminds me of a funny episode in the life of my Aunt
Sal, who had never left the state of Texas till in her 60s when she accompanied
her son on a business trip to NY. She got mighty upset that she couldn't get a
Dr. Pepper nor grits up there! She was a hoot! Dr. Pepper originated in
central Texas and most everyone there will offer you a "Peppa" when you visit.

I remember a colored episode where Aunt Bee became engaged to a Navy man, played
by Will Geer. Does anyone remember this episode?

"I understand it was very difficult to keep a straight face around Floyd, for
instance, and I'll also bet Andy and Don Knotts cracked each other up from time
to time."
You can see a little bit of this in some of the episodes. It's subtle enough
that first time viewers would probably not catch it, but for us trained
noticers it can be detected.
There are some scenes where having Andy stifle a laugh would be scripted, as in
the scene from "Andy the Matchmaker" where Barney is reading the poem that the
kids wrote on the wall of the bank. You know the one - There was a deputy
named Fife, who carried a gun and a knife, the gun was all dusty, the knife was
all rusty, 'cause he never caught a crook in his life. Andy is trying to take
Barney's problem seriously, but can't help laughing at that poem. Of course,
he doesn't want Barney to know he is laughing about it.
However, many times it appears that Andy is stifling a laugh in scenes where it
does not fit for that to be scripted. You will see his jaw twitch sometimes
and sometimes he will put his hand over his mouth. The one that comes to mind
is in "My Fair Ernest T. Bass" when Andy and Barney are on Mrs. Wiley's front
porch and Barney is going on with his speech that includes him telling about
how they are going to send the rock to the boys in the lab for analysis. It
usually happens in a scene where Barney is going on about some absurdity,
although I believe I have noticed it in scenes with Andy and Floyd. It makes
sense because I understand that Andy found both Don and Howard McNear to be
funny. After all, who wouldn't? I doubt any of us could have been on the set
with them and kept a straight face. So Andy stifled his laugh and as long as
it was not glaringly obvious, the scene did not have to be reshot.

Hello everybody it has been a long time since I have posted on the
digest.
Welcome to the new members and hello to the older members.
My question is for Allan 'Floyd' Newsome.
What has happened to the digest archive?
This was a great place to go when I have accidentally deleted a digest I
wanted to keep.

I didn't realize that the archive was down. I'm guessing it is just some
type of server problem that the escribe.com server is having. I'll
watch to see if it comes back. I don't even know how long it has been gone.
