"Anyway, I'm sitting here with a wagon full of supplies. Anybody want a
sandwich?"
Tex, are you offering a samich to take with us or inviting us to join the
picnic? Barney told us not to intrude on the picnic, but we can't get in
trouble if you ask us to stay for a samich. Boy, would you look at all that
food!

***By the way, the Fourth Season DVD set will not have
any original commercials featuring the TAGS cast because...none were
made for that season's episodes.***
Interesting, I did notice that the w/o/c version of "Citizen's Arrest" doesn't
have a
cast commercial, only the standard ones. But what season was "Back to Nature"?
I have
the w/o/c version of that one and its "cast commercial" featured Andy and
Barney doing
calisthenics while Barney discusses Post Grape Nuts. Maybe that was reused
from earlier..?
Still wish they's show us some of the original CBS network promos.

Okay Horatio, I'm willing to show my age. The old fashioned milk bottles I
remember had a small waxed cardboard disk with a little tag on it that fit
down into the lip of the bottle (The tag was so you could lift it back out).
However; sometimes after overuse the disk would bend and not fit so well.
Also, either my sister or I would try to push it down too far into the
bottle and it would fall into the milk. Ah the good old days. We would
leave the list for the milkman in the milk box out front. Occasionally on
the way to the bus stop to catch the school bus I would pull the list out of
the box and put a check next to the chocalate milk and put it back into the
box. Loved the bottles of chocalate milk.

I was watching "A Guest in The House" last nite on TV Land. The show with
Gloria coming to visit. At the end "Frank" ( George Spence) has one line. Is
it "Hi, Gloria" or "Hello, Gloria"? I can't remember. Does anyone know?
Anyway, I think it is so funny that he has one line in the whole show. I
remember
at Mayberry Days last year that George was there for an appearance and the
fans are crazy about seeing him. Just goes to show how us Mayberrians love
everything about TAGS. One show, one line and he's a star forever. What else
did
George appear in? Other than TAGS, I am not familiar with him.

we had quart size milk bottles wheb I was a kid. They had a foil cap that was
prone to falling off after you opened it.Often in the winter the foil cap would
"pop" off if the temp dropped below freezing.Hope this helps, lots of luck to
you & yours.......

Re: Each episode really is like a little movie.
That's true, and is something we have spoken about before. You see,
the show employed the "one camera" technique of filming, meaning that
they went out and about on location and truly did capture the scenes
very like a real movie would be rather than a traditional sitcom - all
stage and live audience and jokes and stuff.
They really were mini movies (more than any other TV show I've seen -
"M*A*S*H" and "The Twilight Zone" would be close to the quality), and
they're beautiful things these little twenty-five minute slices of
Americana.

When I was a little girl and Daddy was overseas, my mother used a milk delivery
in Calif. cuz she didn't drive and we had 7 chilluns. As I remember, the
bottles were glass with sealed cardboard tabs on top. They might get torn or
lost so she'd cover them with foil but I suspect Barn didn't keep that around.

"Funny, I have an unexplainable craving for Sanka
coffee. Good thing it's 97% caffeine-free!"
So you can have as much as you want, whenever you
want!
I LOVE all those ads. Especially the ones that are
episode specific.

Ward took June and the boys camping (see June in blue jeans) and in the
morning he started singing "Juanita". So that makes Deputy Barney Fife, Jim
Anderson, and now Ward Cleaver who sang "Juanita".

Today's News & Observer had an article to pass along to the Digest. The
area code in Chapel Hill is 919 if anyone is interested in calling for
more information (that they can share with the Digest).
Jeff (NC State alumus)
Raleigh, NC
UNC-Chapel Hill to honor achievements in performing arts
>From Staff Reports
CHAPEL HILL -- UNC-Chapel Hill will present its first lifetime
achievement awards for the performing arts to Richard Adler, Andy
Griffith and Maxine Swalin during opening gala events Sept. 10 marking
the official reopening of Memorial Hall.
Called the Carolina Performing Arts Lifetime Achievement Award, the
honor recognizes an alumnus or alumna, an organization or an
exceptional individual whose work in the performing arts has greatly
contributed to life at the university and enriched American culture.
Adler, of New York City, had a lengthy career composing for Broadway,
ballet and orchestra. Griffith, of Manteo, is a legendary television
and film star. Swalin, of Chapel Hill, with her late husband, Dr.
Benjamin F. Swalin, revived the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra.
All three will be honored during a Sept. 10 gala concert.
The performance will feature violinist Itzhak Perlman,
violinist/violist Pinchas Zukerman and the N.C. Symphony, led by
Leonard Slatkin, music director of the National Symphony Orchestra in
Washington, D.C. For tickets, call 843-6323.

I was over at the dime store buying wax for my turtle, and
me and Laura Lee Hobbs got to talking about yesterday's episode when pretty
Gloria came to visit and Helen got all
mad. We missed Barney being in it and we missed Thelma Lou, and we surely
missed the Fun Girls mixing everything up for the gang. Somehow Gloria--as
jealous as
Helen got over her and everything--just wasn't the same because the laughs were
not there. Just the mad. And mad without laughs ain't fun to watch.
And how about that hug between Andy and Helen there at the
end? It proves my point. Of all of Andy's girlfriends, the chemistry between
Andy and Helen is the poorest--in my opinion. Laura Lee Hobbs thinks so too,
though she thinks Andy is generally uncomfortable with any girl if he has to
hug or kiss her.
One thing about Laura Lee Hobbs. She sells good turtle wax
and she knows a lot about human nature.
Lydia, "There's a gold truck a coming. And you and me and
Gomer and Laura Lee Hobbs are gonna be here to re-
ceive it."
