Just received the sad news that Bob Denver has died at age 70. Of course,
aside from being remembered
as Gilligan and as Maynard G. Krebs, Denver was also one of several actors who
played Dud Wash on "The
Andy Griffith Show," in an episode from the 1963-64 season (the season after
"Dobie Gillis" and before "Gilligan's Island"). Denver died at Wake Forest
University hospital in North Carolina, and had undergone
quadruple bypass surgery earlier in the year.

>>>The one lady on TAGS that I always had a crush on was Elinore 'Ellie'
Walker played by Elinore Donahue, she was smart intelligent and
compassionate
admirable qualities in a woman and the Best Pharmacist Mayberry ever
had.<<<<
Thanks for mentioning Ellie. She was sure another "DNAB" (Definitely
not a boy)
One further thought on DNAB's. I guess Peggy wouldn't have been right
for me anyway according to Barney. After all, I am "Joe Ordinary"
That's from the episode that he convinced Andy it would never work
because she was a rich girl. (one of the few times the name Joe is
mentioned on the show) In that same episode (aired on local channel
today) Peggy referred to New Orleans as being a great place to visit.
(sad reminder of today's real world).
I've been reading a good book about the Dick Van Dyke show. I'll have
some other Griffith show related comments in a few days, but we've had a
few discussions about women such a Peggy wearing pants. One whole
chapter in this book is dedicated to the whole issue of Laura Petrie
wearing Capri pants around the house. Mary Tyler Moore had to fight
quite a battle to get to wear them. No wonder then, that Mayberry women
were rarely seen in pants, having started a year or so before the DVD
show.
OK everybody, go back to your homes and places of business

Sadly, Bob Denver, famous as Gilligan, has died. He has a direct
TAGS connection as he was first to play Dud Wash. He was a great
comedic talent. Our best to his family. Here is a link to the AP
story - http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050906/ap_en_tv/obit_denver

I just heard on the radio (and saw on the internet) that Bob Denver has died
at age 70. It said that he had a heart bypass months ago, but it said that
the death was from complications he suffered from cancer treatments. He may
have only been on one TAGS episode, but he was one of Mayberry's own. :)
Also, don't forget that his "big buddy", Skipper was a Mayberryite. But I
hear he had a bad habit of picking up women (literally!). Well, rest in
peace, Bob.

There is a poll on the entertainment/showbiz section of www.netscape.com
that asks who is the greatest all-time tv sidekick. Right now, Barney and
Kramer (from Seinfeld) are tied for 1st place at 24% each. I saw this when
I was looking at the story about Bob Denver's death. If you want to see it,
go to the above link, click on the headline about Bob Denver's death on the
homepage and it should come up. I don't know how long it will stay on
there, though. They change things pretty often. Thanks, Lisa

My beloved person is going big game hunting, so I went over to the dime store
to buy him a new pair of tweezers,
and me and Laura Lee Hobbs voted for our favorite woman to
marry up with Andy. Hands down it was Peggy. She beats all the others because
she comes from money. She beats Susan Oliver
because she has no criminal record (that we know of and I'm pretty sure a nurse
is suppose to be clean). And
over all she is just pleasant and nice. She's real nice.
As nice as Thelma Lou's cousin's nice, without having to look the part. And
that's another thing, in spite of coming from money, the girl works an honest
living. I like
that and Laura Lee Hobbs likes that. Shows she not uppity.
If you can get a rich woman, wrapped in a pretty package, who behaves herself,
and seems to really like you and your
child, boy, you had better hang on to that woman for dear life. Another one
ain't likely to come your way anytime soon. Because you ain't Andy. He had
more opportunities than most
guys ever get, but the really best one--the one with it all--was Peggy; next
best, Ellie. After that, I like that
female lawyer but we don't meet her until the colored episodes.
It's always been me and Laura Lee Hobb's idea that Andy waited so long on Helen
wishing Peggy would come back. But that's just us girls talking.
Oh, well, hubby's got big cats to catch.

I need a quick answer here:
Did Andy or Helen ever say those three little words to each
other, you know, "I Love You"?
Let's just use the b/w episodes. I know Andy told Helen he
missed her "like fire" when he was in CA (ok that wasn't in the b/w series),
and Helen told him
the town must have thought a lot of him to redo the bedroom
when they thought he and she were getting marrying. They
talked around it a lot. But did Andy ever say, "I love you" to her, and I
think we all can agree that Helen was not the sort of girl who would have said
it to a guy unless it was
said to her first. I can't recall it ever being said. But
I'm getting by on very little sleep these days and I seldom
watch the colored shows. So, perhaps I have missed it.

Pat & Neil Coleman came up with another great idea for the WBMUTBB Silent
Auction and are donating a collection of TAGS themed Christmas ornaments -
rowboat, pickle, dog, giraffe, truck, owl, etc.
Is there someone with a medium-sized artificial tree or other ornament
display they could donate to create a decorated Christmas tree? (A little
tree for a little room). Please contact me at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Don't forget the Silent Auction is Saturday after the parade and all
Mayberry donations are welcomed. I'm hoping to get some photos on the
website with the listings.
Thanks,
Jeff

Bob Denver starred as Gilligan on "Gilligan's Island", passed away today
at the age of 70.
He also played on TAGS as Dud Wash.

Oh, no....it would have to be Ernest T; he's healthy, frisky, knows how to
cross a street, sings like a bird, and has a good arm. Plus, he is looks to
be low maintenance=not much fuss, yet focused on the good things in life. I
rest my case. (Sorry. I already called first dibs on Ernest T, ladies. Move
on to Howard....)

This has TAGS connections since he played "Dud Wash" and since the Skipper
was also on TAGS (aka Jeff pruitt) .... Anyway, I am saddened to hear of the
Death of Bob "Gilligan" Denver. Quite often while growing up, I could catch
Gilligan in the afternoon TV lineup in close proximity to TAGS. He was a master
at the role of Gilligan and not a bad "Dud" either!!! It's sad to see these
old heroes passing away, but this is a great reason to have clubs like
WBMUTBB!
Anyway, no disrespect intended, but it looks like Gilligan finally got off
the island.......
