I'm so glad I didn't miss National Potato Week after all. We'll need some
decorations and signs and such for all the festivities. Anybody seen Regis
this week? He is sort of a nut, but he can make a good sign.

Floyd had a cellar also. Remember, his wife had that big stick to prop the
door open.

How about the vault at the bank? If it's locked, just use the new entrance
from the beauty shop that Barney made.

Has Lydia had a turn being potato queen yet? If not, I'd like to nominate her.
I hope potatoes don't make you nauseous.

I also liked Warren. It must have been very difficult to follow in Barney's
footsteps.
I think Warren is very funny and fits into the Mayberry town and sheriff's
office very well.
His interactions with Goober remind me of the interactions Barney had with
Gomer.

Why did Warren leave after only a handful of episodes? Does anyone know why
Warren did not continue in the show?

Well, I just could not let this one slide by.Not to make a moulage, and though
Warren seemed like a nice enough kind of guy,he could not be a replacement for
my Barney.I understand he can't sing a note and won't share his hat,just can't
stand for anybody to wear his hat(gets that from his mama)and at times he gets
them compelshuns,But there will never ever be anybody to take the place of my
Barney. There,I've said it and I ain't a gonna take it back.(unless it gets me a
rude and then I will)

Tim, So sorry, but as Warren being a worthy replacement for Ol' Barn, I can
only quote Briscoe Darling, tiller of soil and feller of trees. "A man's
entitled to his own opinion". Unfortunately for Warren, no one could
replace Bernard Fife, M.D. Jack Burns was a fine actor and a funny
comedian, fairly or not, he couldn't be compared to Barney.

I missed Barney, but once I got used to Warren I started liking his deputying.
(Is that a word?)
Now, Andy, here me out. Warren wasn't Barney but he was great in his own way.
So there!

I did visit the Sisters' flower makin' machine and get me a little
elixer for celbrating National Potato Week. I said celebratin', not
plain guzzlin.

However, in the spirit of NPW, I drank to so many folks' health "I

Well...we could move right on to Sir Walter Raleigh's Landing Day since we
missed National Potato Day, dadburnit, but right now the coast of NC isn't
exactly a good place for landings of any nature....not even for
guzzlin'...unless it's only mulberry squeezins.

Here in Charlotte, we only have hot weather...no rain, only a little wind
from Hurricane Ophelia.
Guess the best place, by far, is Mayberry, NC.

Dunno about any of the rest of y'all..but there's only ONE deputy for
Mayberry...Barney Fife. He's my hero.

Warren, perhaps, could have been a different character altogether, maybe
Gomer's and Goober's long lost cousin from their mother's side..but no way was
he a replacement for Barney...
Just sittin' here wishin' ole Barn had NEVER left TAGS until the show ended.

Bet Thelma Lou would agree with me....

Lou, don't you mean Flora?? The only Cora around town talks about her feet

Big article in the Raleigh News and Observer about Andy being at UNC Chapel
Hill to donate all his Mayberry thingys, including the original scripts of
every show, including the corrections and changes penciled in, a reel of a
show,
all the Matlock scripts as well. Don't know if they will be open for the public
to view or not, but surely would think so.

Watching the Potato celebration reminded me of our small town which grew a lot
pickles (actually they were cucumbers) and they had the annual Pickle Days
Festival.
And a Miss Pickle Queen was chosen for the obvious reasons: looks, poise,
grace, etc. Unfortunately, two years in a row, no one won...

Dear Untrained Voice,

Yes, I wanted more funny parts for Lydia. Is that so wrong?
Lydia lit up the room when she entered it. Why couldn't Andy see that? Laura
Lee Hobbs did.
But I doubt I ever could have ridden that cow with Otis no
matter how funny it would have been. Bad back. If I had ridden that cow, I
would have been in traction for a month.
Actually, why couldn't me and Otis just sit and talk the way we usually do?

Lydia, I hate bowling and cow riding; I don't mind card playing and regular
talking; but I hate bowling and cow riding.
