The best replacement for Barney back then would have possibly been Jerry Van
Dyke, who was in one episode "Banjo Playing Deputy"

Just remember, as I'm sure Neil will remind us, if you want a good suit,
you've got to go to Mt. Pilot. You might even find one made of genuine
whiplash cord. For less formal occasions, you might get a salt and pepper
suit - I hear it hangs just right for the dip.

Question: When National Potato Week ends, do the rest of you folks take your
Potato Tree down right away or do you leave it up for a spell?

I know it's hard to do, but I think we need to stop thinking of Warren in
terms of replacing Barney. Even though they had the same job, he's another
character entirely. Matter of fact, if'n Warren had come first, we'd think
of him in a much more positive light - and, at the same time, having just
as high regard for Barney as we do. Except for maybe Goober and Gomer and
Floyd and Otis and Judd and Ellie and Opie and Roger and ... *g*, Warren
was the second best deputy Mayberry ever had! I've said it before, and
I'll say it again (and I ain't taking it back), the color episodes of TAGS
are the second best thing ever on TV (with no "excepts").

They don't make her nauseous, but they do "lay on her chest", much like
the pretzels. Sorry about that Lydia.

Wish I was going to Mayberry Days - have a great time everybody that is
going to get there.

Wonderful news about the TAGS archive that Andy set up. I saw that
article about the Chapel Hill donation that Andy made and thought I'd
give my new gold tooth for a copy of a script with pencil changes and
spilled coffee on it for extra authenticity.

Hey to all,
Well Mayberry Days is almost here again and I can't wait. Let's pray the
ones attending all have a safe trip to there and back. And that this is the
one
of the best Mayberry Days ever. Bless you all, Debbie and family

Here¹s the link to UNC-Chapel Hill¹s web site and the press release
announcing Andy¹s gift to UNC¹s Southern Historical Collection. Now, you
must understand how difficult it is for a Duke alum like myself to give
propers to ³that other school down the road apiece.² But I am comforted by
the knowledge that I am doing a service to the wbmutbb community.

I'm sure most of you know the common TAGS/'Brady Bunch' connections with Hal
Smith(Otis) portraying Santa Claus and the Kartoon King, and Ken Berry's
appearance (with Jackie Joseph) on 'The Brady Bunch.' There are also some
writing connections with Bruce Howard penning some "Bunch" episodes.
But I've recently discovered that 'The Brady Bunch' filmed exteriors at
Franklin Canyon Reservoir, where so many exteriors of TAGS and the opening
fishin' hole walk sequence was filmed. The Brady exteriors were filmed for the
episode 'A-Camping We Will Go.' This episode was filmed a good full year after
TAGS had ended its run and after Kirk and Spock were running around there on
'Star Trek.' The "night" scenes were actually in broad daylight. The
cameraman made lighting adjustments accordingly. Mention of TAGS was made by
Barry
Williams, Christopher Knight, and Susan Olsen on audio commentary for this
episode on 'The Brady Bunch-The Complete First Season.'
I can't help but think of Andy saying to Ron Howard "You turned out pretty
good!" in the 2003 'The Andy Griffith Show Reunion:Back to Mayberry'
sitting on that bench at Franklin Canyon. If Maureen McCormick would have
walked up
beside Ron, he might have said the same thing to her.
