Hello Everyone
This might have been discussed in times past, but how many times can you
think of that Barney said in a frustrated, exasperated tone of voice,
"What's the matter? Haven't you ever seen a .... ?" For example, today I
watched "Barney on the Rebound" and in the epilogue, Barney is acting
cool after Andy walks in on him and Thelma Lou making out (makeup making
out, no doubt) and after realizing that Andy has his number, Barney
says, "What's the matter? Haven't you ever seen a man drinking a cup of
coffee before?"
And in the episode where Barney dresses up as a cleaning woman to expose
the bank's weak security measures (in the event of a 10-12), when he is
taking off the dress on the street, in response to a passerby's
quizzical look, Barney says, "Haven't you ever seen a man taking off a
dress before?"
Can you think of other times when Barney says this?

To be mentioned in the same breath with Mr. Schwenke is an honor in
itself. I don't feel like I have done anything to deserve this award. I
consider all of us, performers and fans alike, to be one big family. And
family "does" for each other. That's the Mayberry way. So many of you

"family". Gary<<<

While at Mayberry Days, I meant to ask a number of people as to how Richard
O. Linke is doing these days. He has been absent from Mayberry Days for a
couple of years and if anyone has a report on him, it would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Regarding Paul King's comments...
I believe Frank Cady did play Otis in the Make Room for Daddy (Danny
Thomas) pilot. I remember his playing the drunk...it's been a while
since I've watched it...not sure if the name was Otis. As I remember,
he didn't quite have Hal's "style!"

I'm not a trained noticer, but the author of the article had Frank Cady
credited as playing Otis, not our own Hal Smith. (Frank was Mr. Drucker
in "Green Acres", I believe).
Nor do I recall a mention of "What It Was Was Football", which sends me
into fits of laughter every time I hear it.

I sent an e-mail to the folks at American Profile about the error in naming
Frank Cady as Otis instead of Hal Smith.....
A quick response from Richard McVey the editor of American Profile.......he
indicated it was noticed before it went to press but somehow made on the online
edition.....he thanked me and it was corrected........

It is on the top of the "Welcome" page. Please feel free to sign the book
and leave your comments. Pay no attention to the first 2. I was trying it out
:-)
Stop by and say hey. I'd appreciate it

I sure have enjoyed all of the wonderful comments from folks that were at
Mayberry Days this year. I sure did hate to miss it, but since it was my
birthday yesterday, that kind of took the edge off of my sadness. Happy
Birthday to the other Huntsville, Alabama Alan!! I liked your poem!!
Welford, I felt like I was right there with you as you talked about all the
things you, your family and friends did this weekend at Mayberry Days, thanks
so much for sharing.
Since I feel sad about missing Mayberry Days this year, I will sing a few
lines from Briscoe's song to Aunt Bee................ "Low and lonely, sad and
blue....thinking only of little you....... always trying to keep from crying..
I'm low and lonely over (not getting to see all of) you"...................!
.......Okay, okay I'll stop my caterwallin' now. : o )

Maggie Peterson ("Charlene Darling") also co-starred, as the hotel maid.
THE BILL DANA SHOW is actually a double-spinoff!
Bill Dana's "Jose Jimeniz" was a skit character he portrayed on NBC's Sunday
night comedy/variety THE STEVE ALLEN SHOW (costarring Don Knotts) from 1957
- 1959. After ALLEN, "Jose Jimeniz" became the apartment building doorman
on THE DANNY THOMAS SHOW from 1959 - 1963. And then spun off into THE BILL
DANA SHOW in 1963.

Of course, they could always take it to the artistic weavers for mending,

I was watching an early morning episode of Bonanza a couple days ago and the
opening scene showed a young mountain girl with her dying grandpa...none
other than old Ben Weaver! Poor old Ben just can't catch a break!!
