You know the last time they tried to give Andy a medal, he didn't want one.
Now, Barney was up for something made of just plain solid gold, no diamonds.
Maybe some rubies, it's his birthstone.

Well, next week, I'm headed down to Kiln, MS for some disaster relief work.
Since Kiln is known as the Moonshine Capital of the World, I'll keep an eye
out for Otis. I need to check my map, too. If Kiln is anywhere close to
Lake Charles, maybe I'll pop over and see Uncle Ollie.

Mayberry's sign would also have the Kiwanis logo, since they definitely have
a Kiwanis Club. I know this because Barney offered use of the Kiwanis Hall
for that big summit meeting hosted by the Raleigh Police.

By the way, who do you think Keevy Hazelton was modelled after? I have no
idea. His TV show made me think of Pat Boone's 1950s/early 60s show, while his
song titles like "Texarkana in the Morning" made me think of Glen Campbell.
Both treatments of "Mayberry My Hometown" sounded like the Beach Boys (the
slower version sounding like "In My Room"). Any other theories?

I am truly saddened and heartbroken to hear of the passing of Jean Carson. I
had the privilege of meeting her in Birmingham five years ago and she was a
delight. I have her autograph here somewhere.

Does anyone remember the "Twilight Zone" episode she starred in, "A Most
Unusual Camera"? I heard somewhere, perhaps even here in the digest, that Rod
Serling wrote the episode just for her.

In the episode where Goober blackballs Howard from membership in the Lodge,
isn't it referred to as something like "The Golden Door To the Royal Order
of Good Fellowship"?

I need an official official to verify this....somebody that's a lot more
official than the other official who came to the courthouse.

Everyone knows that the Lodge at Mayberry was the "Golden Door to Good
Fellowship"
I'm sure it was made up just for the show so they would offend any real lodge
members of
any real organization

Hello Mayberry,

I teach at an international school in Seoul, Korea. Talk about
coincidences... The choir director I teach with is the same age as me, likes
Green Acres and Andy Griffith. In fact, we both brought back from the
States this year seasons 1 and 2 DVDs of Green Acres. At any rate, we were
talking the other day and trying to remember some of Barney?s phractured
phrases. Things like those guys with the ?compelshun ? you know, like a
handwashing compelshun? from The Bookie Barber.

Anyone out there remember any more of Barney?s classics?

Thanks, and Mayberry says ?Happy Motoring!?

I noticed the hair part change (in "Barney's New Car") on my DVD as well. I
think it was Ray a digest or two ago that suggested the film might have been
flipped, which is what I thought too. In addition to the hair, Barney's shirt
is reversed (buttons on the other side) and he's fingering the keys with his
other hand. I imagine when they shot the scene, Andy and Don had inadvertantly
switched places. They needed the shot to transition out of the scene, and
flipped the negative to get them both back in the right place. They probably
figured fewer people would notice the reversed image (rather than having them
in the wrong place). But they didn't know we would be watching so carefully on
a DVD more than forty years later!

I was saddened to hear of Jean Carson's passing. I met her once at an autograph
signing and she was very warm-hearted and kind. Like so many actors, Jean
impacted Mayberry in a wonderful way, even though she was only in a few
episodes. "Hi, Doll!" will forever be a part of TAGS history.

what was the name of that outfit that Goober was the door keeper, and Andy
tried to get Howard into.
The Royal Order Of Good Fellowship or something like that.
Goober was wearing a red fur hat.
that would take after the Shrine, which you have to be a Mason first to join
in.

On th E-Mason site click on North Carolina
http://www.freemasonry.org/links/ Mayberry would be A.F. & A.M. which is
Ancient Free and Accepted Masons

The one that might be Mayberry Lodge, would be Mount Airy Round Peak Lodge #
616
from the Grand lodge of NC http://www.grandlodge-nc.org/main.htm

The Esquire Club that Barney and Andy were invited to join wouldn't be a
masonic organization
However the one that Goober was door keeper at, would be like a masonic
organization

I'm a Master Mason myself.

which brings up this question.

how many of us WBMUTBB members are actual masons.

I don't know if we could start up an online lodge or not.

any ideas????????

Allan

Thanks for sharing the news and for the nice tribute to Jean Carson.
We will all miss her very much.

Most of us wish we knew her as well as you did, but I know you helped
her with her website and were very kind to her over the years.

My friend and our favorite Barney Tribute Artist, David Browning, was to
perform with Jean at Mayberry at Meadowbrook (is that what that event
was called??). David commissioned me to write a little dialog for he
and Jean to perform. So she has a special place in my heart as the only
real TAGS alum that spoke something that I wrote.

Here's to you Jean, as we mourn your "vacant chair"
