The recent mention of Jimmy eating dynamite, then Lydia's question regarding
favorites who only appear once or twice made me realize that I enjoyed both
Jimmy and Lydia's performances. I like the episodes with Blue the dog and
Clarenc Earp too. I can't think about the line "besmirch the name of Earp"
without grinning but almost feeling a little queasy.

When Barney finally gets out to Quiet Sam's place and finds Andy preparing
to birth that baby, Andy explains that he's seen it done a "hunderd times"
before and that he's read the book.

I got to wondering where Andy had been to see all those babies being born?

I think my favorite one-timer was Ed Sawyer, the "stranger in town." He was so
sincere in his admiration of Mayberry, just as I am, and so sweet in his desire
to become a citizen that I very much enjoy my visit with him every time that
episode airs. He appeared to be an extremely fine gentleman.

Someone asked a few days ago what ever happened to Ed Sawyer?

I had a theory a few years back. Since I can't get to the archives,
I'll try to recreate it from memory.

Ed liked Mayberry so much, but it was obvious he was viewed as an
outsider, so he lured the following people to leave Mayberry and move
with him to a new place.
Lucy Matthews--who opened a Diner and became Ed's Girlfriend
Floyd (the original before Howard McNear--he was in that episode) to
start a new Floyd's barbershop
George Safferly--to open a new Gas Station
The lady with the twins (to have some kids around)
A few of the unnamed town loafers who didn't care where they loafed.
Lucy's brother, who became a deputy
And of course Ed as Sheriff of his new town--Sawyerberry
A sign at the edge of town said "No matter where your from , or what
language you speak, this is "Your home town" Sawyerberry
A bunch of his army buddies moved their families there and they all
lived in peace.

Kinda far fetched I know, but I thought is was weird all those
characters just appeared that one time.
Reckon Ole Ben Weaver moved there and opened a store?
Maybe Ellie went there and later and started her own Pharmacy?
Got any other theories? Moulage that one in your hear for a while.

*** NOTE FROM TAGSRWC HQ: Laugh Tracks on Season 4 DVDs ***

Below is a note DIRECT from the Presiding Goober himself, Jim
Clark, straight from TAGSRWC HQ in Nashville, TN.

------------------------------------------------
Several folks have asked about the lack of laugh tracks on some of the
episodes on the Fourth Season DVD sets. Some folks love having no laugh
tracks. Some don't. Paramount is checking to see why they weren't
included. It could be that versions of some episodes with laugh tracks
simply weren't available to Paramount's production team at this
time--even though syndicated versions and other retail releases of the
same episodes might have always had the tracks. (Different versions
might get lost or were used by previous manufacturers and not returned,
etc.)

Anyway, all DVD sets of the Fourth Season are the same. There's no
point in calling Paramount to ask for an explanation because they don't
know yet. We'll post info here and on the TAGSRWC site (in the Weaver's
section) as soon as we get info from Paramount.

--jim
P.S. Some folks have been speculating that the reason that Am*z*n and
B*stB*y (we still can't bring ourselves to spell those dreaded names!)
and others are projecting to be out of the Fourth Season DVDs until
after Christmas is that Paramount has recalled sets. Paramount says
that is not the case. Some of those big retailers simply didn't have
their fingers on the pulse of Mayberry like ol' Ben Weaver does, and
didn't order enough. Weaver's expects to have plenty of Fourth Season
(and the previousl-released first three seasons) to last through the
holiday shopping season. Ditto for the 2006 Mayberry wall calendars that
others tend to run out of about this time each year.

Lydia, that was a good suggestion about putting a bucket on your head to do
some "thankin", I could really "thank" good while under that bucket! Anyway I
have to be honest with you and say my brief but not forgotten answer is a tie!
I have always loved Mr. McBeevee because he was so kind to Opie, what with the
quarter, and the hatchet he gave him. But more than that Mr. McBeevee proved
to Andy that he was right to trust Opie when he told Andy that he met somebody
who walked around in the trees! Any of the episodes where Andy and Opie have
some of those "special" moments are some of my favorites. My other choice for
a brief but not forgotten character would have to be Henry Bennett. Whenever I
see that episode it breaks my heart. Poor old Henry just wanted to fit in and
be a part of Mayberry like everyone else and he tried so hard. His sad face
when he tells everyone in the barber shop that he is leaving Mayberry, just
brings me to tears. I love how Andy helps everyone see
that Henry has every right to be in Mayberry.

......"You walk around in the trees...you wear a shiny hat....you jingle when
you walk... and I bet you can make smoke come out of your ears"....... I sure
am glad to meet you....

Lydia, Ralph was using the alias Maude in this episode...so Floyd said
"Maude, AL, if those hambergers are burned, I won't be responsible!" Thanks for
quoting this one, it's one of my favorites. I got a good laugh just reading
your

It was likely the producers and it should be noted that Ford was the car of
choice on "The Danny Thomas Show" at the time. When Andy makes his first
appearance on the Thomas show, he's driving a '59 Ford Fairlane squad car and
Danny
and family are in a Thunderbird convertible. The producers likely stuck
with a supplier with whom they'd developed a relationship. Ford and Chrysler
appeared to be the two big TV show car suppliers at the time (on "Car 54 Where
are You?" the squad car was usually a Plymouth, while "The Beverly Hillbillies"
made use of Dodges and Chryslers). I don't remember seeing GM supply a lot of
cars except on shows they sponsored ("Route 66," "Bewitched," etc) but they
did provide Lucy and Ricky their convertible for the trip to California on "I
Love Lucy," and Broderick Crawford's Olds squad car on "Highway Patrol."

Regional accuracy may have been another factor. Most of the older pics I see
around area police departments from that era show Ford police cars.
