Neil Brower has not yet started a second book (that I know of, and I saw him
Saturday), but has said he may put together another volume some day.

One issue that started praying on my mind while traveling a lonely stretch of
I-20 over the Thanksgiving holiday is who determined that Ford would be the car
of choice on TAGS? Did Andy Griffith have any say in that decision? I
wouldn't think so but then I remembered that Ford was the car of choice on
Matlock as well. Probably just coincidence but I figured if anyone had inside
information on this topic then he or she is probably a member of the bulletin
board.
Speaking of which, I believe I joined around the spring of '02 and to echo the
thoughts of those members it has been and continues to be a joy to be a part of
this online community. Checking the daily conversations is one of the
highlights of my day and always manages to make me smile - except when someone
forgets the rules!

let Tracy Crawford off with a warning if I catch him.

A google produced lots of references--including a link to the original cast and
one to Samuel French, which means it's still in print and available for
performances.

But, Aunt Bee, I just noticed the last sentence of your "Six Who Pass While the
Lentils Boil." You already knew that.

The following obituary was posted about the death of Keith Andes, who
appeared as Roger Bryant in the Feb. 27, 1967, espisode of The Andy Griffith
Show titled "Helen, the Authoress."
I had the pleasure of meeting him at his home four years ago after
attending an autograph show in North Hollywood. Despite being 81, he was
still muscularly built, and although the wavy hair had been replaced by the
Mr. Clean bald head, it was undoubtedly Keith Andes. He was a terrific
gentleman who enjoyed the years in the business and was proud of his
accomplishments. As with all TAGS actors that have passed before him, he,
too, will be missed.

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 29 (AP) - Keith Andes, a handsome actor of films and
Broadway who was Marilyn Monroe's leading man in the 1952 film "Clash by
Night," has died at his home in Santa Clarita, Calif. He was 85.
Mr. Andes, who had bladder cancer and other ailments, was found dead on Nov.
11, said Marshall LaPlante, a friend. The Los Angeles County coroner's
office ruled the death a suicide by asphyxiation.
Though Mr. Andes rarely discussed his career, his apartment walls displayed
memorabilia including an album cover from "Wildcat," the 1960 Broadway
musical in which he starred with Lucille Ball.
Mr. Andes got his start in Hollywood when the studio head Darryl F. Zanuck
saw him perform as the understudy in the Broadway production of "Winged
Victory" and offered him a small part in the 1944 film version.
He had roles in about 20 other movies, including as one of the brothers in
"The Farmer's Daughter" (1947) and Gen. George C. Marshall in "Tora! Tora!
Tora!" (1970).
On television he was an amateur sleuth on "Glynis," a 1963 CBS sitcom in
which Glynis Johns played his wife, and appeared in the syndicated police
drama "This Man Dawson" from 1959 to 1960. He made guest appearances on more
than 40 shows, many of them westerns.
Born John Charles Andes on July 12, 1920, in Ocean City, N.J., he was
appearing on the radio by the age of 12.
After attending Oxford University, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in
education from Temple University in 1943 and studied voice at the
Philadelphia Conservatory of Music. He was known for his baritone.
Mr. Andes served three years in the Army Air Forces and sang and acted in
United Service Organization shows.
He earned the Theater World Award for the outstanding breakout performance
of 1947 in "The Chocolate Soldier" and later starred as a replacement for
the lead, Alfred Drake, in the original production of "Kiss Me Kate."
Mr. Andes was divorced twice. He is survived by his son, Mark, an original
member of the rock groups Canned Heat and Spirit; another son, Matt; and
three grandchildren.

Allan's post got me to thinking while I was under my bucket. Many characters
passed by our beloved Mayberry and
none was ever truly forgotten. But which one-time traveler was your favorite?
Put your bucket on and tell us your particular best loved
character that only appeared that once (or maybe twice).
Mine would be The Lady Convicts. I kept hoping they would break out of jail
again so aka Ralph Henderson could dance
with Barney again and I could see ol' Floyd sitting on that couch and waving
his banana to the tune of music like he didn't have a care in this world. That
breaks me and Laura Lee Hobbs up every time we think of it.
