In Ark where I grew up the State Police car's were Plymouth Fury's during the
70's
Most local police used fords. But ford was not the only manufacturer to make
special cars just for the police.

Chevy made 3rd generation Camaros in special police pursuit versions. (A lot of
people would try to find these in junk yards just to get the rear axle out of
them since it had disc brakes and the standard camaro of those years, including
the Z-28 had rear drum brakes). Chevy also made police versions of the caprice
in the late 90's

In the present day time local cops here in Dallas are going to Dodge FWD police
cars after the big fiasco of the exploding Ford Crown Vics.

Quotes
Every time I read a quote from TAGS that someone has written, my mind plays
it to me in the exact voice and timing that it was originally spoken.
Sometimes it triggers the episode to start running in my head, and I enjoy
every minute of it.

I was watching my 4th season DVD's today and I noticed something.

I saw a question in the E Bullet recently about who were the past 5 sheriffs of
Mayberry.
In the episode "Citizen's Arrest", it starts with Barney and Andy singing
together and going thru old files.
Barn brings one over to Andy and it is from 1931 about someone going thru town
with a cut out engaged (Cut outs were special
valves that you could put into your exhaust pipe in front of the muffler and it
would divert the exhaust from the muffler which made the car very very loud.
They could be turned off or on by a flexible cable that worked just like a
manual choke cable, or the throttle cable on a lawnmower that would be
installed somewhere under or in the dash.) The sheriff mentioned in this case
was Sheriff Pinkly.
(Another bit of noticing, the car mentioned is a REO Flying Cloud, but in the
subtitles it shows up as a Real Flying Cloud lol)

Barney asked if Andy took over from Pinkly and Andy replys no,
Fred Paly took over from Pinkly,
Dale Buckley took over from Paly
and Andy took over from Paly.

Now in the 5th season episode "The Case of the Punch in the Nose", which starts
exactly the same way as "Citizen's Arrest" except the song is different, The
case is from 8-9-1946 and it is Sheriff Poindexter who was sheriff at that
time.

So I wonder where in the line up of sheriffs he was, or is this one of the
unsolvable mysteries of Mayberry?
And does anyone remember any other episodes that mention another sheriff
besides these?

Citzens Arrest episode also shows Andy handing Barney a document for his
revolver being issued. It was 10 years ago.
And Andy comments on how Barney hasnt aged a day in the 10 years he's been on
the job.
But in another episode (I can't remember which) Barney gets the famous watch
with "5" on it.

>>>As for police cars the Ohio state patrol uses all fords, I think ford is
the
only manufacturer that makes a car to specifically used as a police car.
Bob
>>>

For several decades now, Ford has completely dominated the police car
market. During the 1960s, the publicity generated by shows like TAGS helped
a lot, but the main reason real police departments chose them back then was
that GM and Chrysler did not offer police packages with V8s. A "police
package" refers to a car made especially for law enforcement use and not
sold to the public: you know, it's got a cop motor, cop tires, cop
suspension, cop shocks, etc. (too bad they don't run good on regular gas
anymore.)

Dodge recently unveiled a new Charger with a police package, but I've yet to
see one on the road.

My favorite one-time character is Bert Miller. Besides being a TAGS fan, I am
also a Winnie the Pooh fan, and to have Sterling Holloway, who was the original
voice of Winnie the Pooh, on TAGS is almost too much excitement for me to
stand. I know that some other TAGS actors voiced characters in the Winnie the
Pooh cartoons (Hal Smith, Sam Edwards, Clint Howard), but Sterling Holloway was
Winnie the Pooh, and his voice is so distinctive that when he talks, I can
almost hear Winnie the Pooh talking.

My second favorite one-time character is Mary Grace Gossage. She and Gomer
should have gotten married. They were perfect for each other.

Hey to Crystal, and the rest of you,

My favorite part in the Opie and the Bully episode was when
Andy asks Barney if he ever worries if he is doing the right thing; and that
self-doubting moment for Andy, that moment of
did-I-make-the-right-decision-for-my-child, is a time all good parents know
only too well. And when Andy asks that question of Barney and Barney, for
once, doesn't
brag about himself but answers humbly and honestly, "Yeah,"
I can really feel the humanity of both characters: Andy the
father, and Barney the often flawed but always willing friend and deputy.
That's why we can forgive Barney for his failings. His heart is pure. He wants
to be good. He wants to be like Andy.
Andy helps Barney; and in his way Barney helps Andy. Without our Barn in his
life, Andy is a much stiffer, less
colorful person, much more set in his ways.
These two men needed each other as much as we enjoy seeing them together.
That's the way life often is. We find exactly who we need when we need them.
It's called a blessing and we should always remember to give thanks for it.

Hi everyone. Thanks to "CAPT" for the info about the squad car available
online. I ordered one yesterday and it will be perfect for my Mayberry

perfectly. I made it so I could light all the buildings--Courthouse, Floyd's
Barber Shop/Grocery Store, Hotel, and Theater --from the inside of each
building with those little white Christmas tree lights. It worked out well and
will
go under our tree every Christmas from now on. I have a photo if any of you
Mayberryites want to see how it looks. Merry Christmas and a Great

I was traveling west on Interstate 40 just west of Knoxville, TN on Saturday
12/3 ' near 'bout 1:00 or so when I spotted a TAGS squad car replica. It had a
Roane County (TN) tag. It was a bit rainy, so I was trying to be extra careful
and didn't venture a good look to see if I knew the driver. We slowed down and
I gave a wave and my darling person gave a thumbs up. I'm wondering if'n it was
any of y'all.

If I had my druthers betwixt the 2, I'd rather have the Darlling truck to
own.

>>Of course that truck didn't come from an Olds dealer, hot rod guru George
Barris found it behind an old feed store. Likewise, I'm sure that same
southern
California Ford dealer didn't provide the Ford truck used by the Darling
family.<<

that could be cause both of them are GM products, probably were back in them
Days too.

>>Someone mentioned Pontiacs being on "My Three Sons," come to think of it
>>they
were also all over the place on "I Dream of Jeannie." But those shows both
used Pontiacs in the **late** '60s, I was talking about the early '60s. At
that earlier point "My Three Sons" used Chevys because that was their
sponsor.<<

Crystal, my favorite episodes are the ones concerning Andy & Opie. I love
them all. After watching the entire 4 seasons, I went back and watched all
the episodes with Andy & Opie as the main stories, starting with the first
one, New Housekeeper. It's great to see how Opie grew up on the show and the
different situations that he went through and how Andy handled the raising
of him. Too bad all father & sons relationships aren't like that.
