Has anyone ever asked Andy Griffith himself who Mr. Schwamp really was?
Certainly with his input to the show and his references to things from his real
life, he would know the answer. Although I would not know how to get in touch
with him, it seems that he would be the one that would know the answer to this
Mayberry mystery.

I wanted to let our mayberry fans know that our own David Browning will be
performing at the Oakboro Music Hall on Friday night December 9th in Oakboro
NC.
This is a Dinner Theatre and David performs all the parts of the Christmas
Story.

I understand that several of the mayberry tribute artist will be in the
audience as well. They include Floyd, Ernest T, and Howard so you never know
what will happen.

If you intrested this event includes a buffet meal at 6:30 and performance at
8pm.

OK, I can solve the mystery. Actually, the ol' Barn did. Seems he was
going through some old fingerprint files in the Raleigh detective bureau
(you know he has "s-u") the other day and came upon an familiar name -
Schwamp.

Turns out our mysterious Mr. Schwamp had a reason for us not knowing who he
was. He was in the Witness Protection Program! The one thing that the
record didn't show was what Mr. Schwamp did in his previous life. He was
probably Mr. Big! Couldn't take the heat any more, turned himself in,
changed his name and moved to a quiet rural town in NC.

So there you are.

An AP article about Ricky Brown of Warrenton, Va., and his Mayberry
squad car appeared in the Greensboro News & Record yesterday. Here's a
link to the article on the WRAL (Raleigh TV station) Web site:

http://www.wral.com/apncnews/5463348/detail.html

Here's an excerpt:

. . . "Brown made the purchase of a lifetime at a car show in Pigeon
Forge, Tenn. After some quick consideration and, he admits, a couple of
drinks, Brown bought a 1964 Ford Galaxy 500 that, if not an original,
is an exact replica of the vehicle Sheriff Andy Taylor used to drive
Ernest T. Bass to Mrs. Wiley's party.

"'When I saw it down there, I just had to take it home with me,' the
proud new owner says.

"While Brown has not completed a title search to verify the car's
authenticity, he says the man he bought it from told him it was one of
a number of vehicles used on "The Andy Griffith Show" set.

"And the seller told Brown that the car had been in his family for 40
years. . . ."

Does anyone know about this particular car and its history?

My favorite one timer was none other than Neil Bentley....(Although the

I know it's been mentioned, but I'll put in my vote too. After watching the
first episode
of season 4, I had to turn it off half way through because there was no
laughing. Made
me feel like I was watching a movie instead of a sit-com. I'm very
disappointed because
the laugh tracks were left off. I guess I'll have to save all my old
tapes.

I was watching a very interesting movie last night...The Court Martial of
Billy Mitchell from 1955. The part of Admiral Simms, which was a very short
part
as a witness for the defense, was played by none other than old Ben Weaver
hisself!! He was kinda hard to recognize at first, 'cause he had a short
beard, but the eyes looked familiar and when he spoke, there was no question
it
was Ben!! And played a Simms yet!! I only use one M where he used 2 but just a
minor "derivitation."

Re: I also noticed that this was another episode that had "RAIN". When
Andy pulled into town with the family of "prisoners", the street had
puddles of water on them, and the squad car was wet.

Well, sometimes in the wintertime, it does rain here in Southern
California, so there you have it!

>>>Does anyone have any idea what type and model of motorcycle (with

Barney purchased through a Army surplus auction? I'm assuming it's an Indian
or Harley, but not sure from there. Andy planted a plaque in the sidecar
showing that the bike was used to cross the Marne River by General Pershing
in 1918. I'm sceptical the bike is that old, but I could be wrong.

It's definitely a Harley-Davidson, but nowhere near old enough to have been
in WWI. I believe it was a model 74, from around 1933 or so. I was once
told by a collector that the sidecar is worth more than the bike, since so
few were made.

I missed the pilot for Tags that was featured on the Danny Thomas Show. I
was two years old when it showed. I have been searching the internet to
purchase it and read on Miss Crump's B.B. that it will be included in season
5 of Tags. I have that season pre-ordered but it will not be out till 2/06.
Well, yesterday I found out that the pilot is included in season 5 of the
Danny Thomas Show. It is an edited show but I cannot wait till 2/06, I'm
awful with it comes to wanting something now, so I ordered the Danny Thomas
Show season 5 AND paid extra to get it delivered by next week!

I have never seen the Danny Thomas Show but am willing to pay to purchase it
just for the pilot of Tags.

I think I need to join a club that will help me with my addiction to TAGS.

I don't know who resubmitted my post on Opie and the Bully
and the remarks about Andy and Barny's relationship, and
then wrote, "Now that was about as well said as I have ever
heard."

But thank you very much, whoever you are.

King Dennis,

Ah yes, I'm familiar with John Hitch's recreation of Mayberry. I've went
to one of his music gatherings a while back. Definitely worth the
visit. I'll make the same offer, lemme know when you're coming up I-75 and
we'll play checkers or something.

BTW, you got mentioned on John Boy and Billy again the other day!
