Hey Everybody,
We should not ever forget "spaghetti." Andy ate three spaghetti suppers. My
wife just told me that is what we are having for supper!! I guess you could
call it my Mayberry moment as she told me this while I was writing this message.
Have A Great Mayberry Week!!!

May I suggest salt rising bread & a dessert of Thelma Lou's cashew fudge?
Cashew Caramel Fudge
1/2 C. butter (no substitutes)
1 can (5 oz.) evaporated milk
2-1/2 C. sugar
2 C. (12 oz.) semisweet chocolate chips
1 jar (7 ounces) marshmallow creme
24 caramels, quartered
3/4 C. salted cashew halves
1 t. vanilla extract
Line a 9 inch square baking pan with foil; butter the foil. Set aside.
In a large heavy saucepan, combine milk, sugar and butter. Cook and stir
over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Bring to a rapid boil; boil
for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
Remove from heat; stir in chocolate chips and marshmallow creme until
melted. Fold in caramels, cashews and vanilla; mix well.
Pour into prepared pan. Cool. Remove from pan and cut into 1 inch squares.
Makes about 3 pounds.

Did anyone get to see "Convicts at Large" during the TAGS Top 10 on TV LAND? I
believe one of the female convicts (can't remember the character name) was Jean
Carson, but with much shorter hair. Her character was the second one to go
outside and be handcuffed by Andy while the "leader" was busy cooking dinner.
What a difference between this earlier character and her portrayal of Daphne -
"Hello, Doll."

I always enjoy reading about different folks' Mayberry moments. My husband and
I are huge fans of the show (we're the ones building the Taylor Home
Inn...yeah, STILL building, as in, present tense), and recently we visited with
some friends in Illinois (Nice, Real Nice Mary Grace and Mr. Foley) who are
also great fans. About a year ago we got a miniature Schnauzer puppy, and just
like the recent new dog owners on the digest, we named her Ellie. She is a
rock hound--literally! She loves to dig up rocks of any and all sizes and
bring them to the door for us. We had her with us when we were visiting Don
and Joyce...er, NRNMG and Mr. Foley, and Ellie brought a rock to their door.
Now comes the Mayberry moment.
I said to Ellie (about the rocks), "They're all hard centers."
And without skipping a beat, Joyce said to Ellie, "Hope yer teeth'll take 'em!"
I almost fell out of my chair laughing...

We've mentioned this before, and we never heard a definitive answer but we do
have some theories. One is that the intentionally dull finish is intended to
simulate dust from country roads. (This is especially noticeable on "Green
Acres" if you keep an eye on the Douglas' Lincoln Continental and Mr. Kimball's
Ford Bronco). Another theory, perhaps even more likely, is that the director
didn't want the cameras, lights and other equipment to be reflected in the
finish. I have been snapping stills of the squad car for models I'm working on
and I noticed also that the side windows stay rolled down, perhaps for the
same reason.

Man thats a good idea.
I bet they wouldn't be very expensive to make and they sure would be neat.
Does anyone know of a picture on line or a particular episode that the keys
are featured prominately in? I know they are in the Cousin Virgil episode but
that is one episode I don't have myself.

Well there's always the three Vienna sausages, a little tomato puree and more
than an ample portion of succotash. Or you can just give him a pork chop
sandwich with some of that cashew fudge for dessert.

Teresa, How about for your Pastor's dessert you either make him a pan of
cashew fudge, or maybe if there is a Boysinger's Bakery in your town you could
run over there and buy a chocolate cake from Millie. She might give you a
discount if it is dented in... you know maybe when Millie was putting it in the
case she put her thumb in the side of it??? Don't forget how Aunt Bee always
served hearty southern meals, so you need to be sure there is plenty of ...
MEAT.....BREAD....and TATERS!!!! Of course I doubt if a Pastor would raise his
voice at the table. I'm sure his mother really watched that. I just know he
will really enjoy his meal, and if by chance he forgets to tell you all how
much he enjoyed it.... just remember...... "eatin' speaks louder than words."
Please write and tell us how it all turns out.

A quick update on Mayberry Days tickets - the Dillards Friday evening
concert only has balcony seating available at this time (orchestra seats
sold out). Tickets for the matinee show at the Andy Griffith Playhouse are
still available.
Neal Brower's Lecture this year will feature "The Darlings" with Maggie
Peterson Mancuso and Rodney & Doug Dillard as his special guests. Remember
that the lecture and TAGSRWC meeting are combined this year and dinner will
not be served at the Cinema. However, there will be a spaghetti dinner
afterwards at Central UMC.
All the latest Mayberry Days information is on the Surry Arts Council
website at www.surryarts.org.

I was very surprised that they left out one of my other favorite
episodes; "Opie's Charity"...
It had some of the best lines Opie ever said as a little guy.

How about Barney's favorite (Aunt Bee made it when he was trying to gain
weight) -- Banana Cream Chocolate Pie.
And "half a ham" (When Opie (Robin Hood and his Merry men) took it to the
bum with the game leg).

In the episode The Jinx my sister noticed Clint Howard appeared and is listed
in the cast, but is that Rance Howard picking him up during the dance? She
also notice it appeared as if the man picking up Clint was covering his eyes
for some reason, what was that about? I couldn't find that episode in my
collection so I couldn't check it out for her. Also, they were square dancing,
is
there another episode where square dancing is done?
Thanks for the info!

Now we know why Ron Howard is so bald. Barney rubbed all the hair off

chickens that laid square eggs.
