I just wanted to share a Mayberry Moment with all of you. My 9 year old
nephew came down to spend the weekend with me. I took him out to the lake
for his first kayaking trip. As we were paddling around the lake I asked
him how he was doing. He gave me a big smile and said "Sick as a dog but
having the time of my life!" I was soooo proud!!! Anytime I asked him how
he was doing he gave me that reply.
It's good to know my sister is bringing my nephew up right.... Mayberry
Style!

I know the Ford Motor Company provided the vehicles for TAGS and would
think they would wax up the finish on the Squad Car. Do any of you TAGS
folks remember an episode where the Squad Car was shined up? The paint
on the Squad Car always looked so "dull".

I think you hit it on the head...TV Land apparently stressed actor's
performances in their poll of cast members. There are some genuine classics
that tend
to pop in and out of polls ("Man in a Hurry," "The Sermon for Today," "Aunt
Bee the Warden," "Barney's Sidecar," and the one where Opie sells Miracle Salve
are a few that come to mind; that Miracle Salve episode is hysterical,
especially Gomer claiming to be "Opie Taylor Sr."). You'll also note TV Land
only
offered a handful of shows to choose from, not all 249.
The fact of the matter is, "The Andy Griffith Show" has a large number of
classic episodes to choose from, and the fact so many top ten lists produce so
many different selections just underscores what a special show this is. Even
"Dick Van Dyke Show," "All in the Family," "Mary Tyler Moore Show" and
"Seinfeld" fans tend to list the same set of episodes from those series as
favorites;
TAGS was apparently more consistent in producing gold.

I was surprised neither "Man in a Hurry" nor "The Sermon for Today" made the
list. They are often listed among favorites of the WBMUTBB chapter, and they
seem to be the ones displaying the "Mayberry Life" at its best.
I once broke down in a small town in SC on Sunday and it reminded me so much of
"Man in a Hurry." All the fillin' station could do was sell gas, although the
attendant did help us roll start the car and he didn't even charge for it.
Anyway, picking a top ten is a chore. Some are good because they are funny
(Pickle Story and Convicts at Large), some are good because they teach a lesson
(Opie the Birdman), and some are good because they accent the Mayberry life
(Sermon for Today, Man in a Hurry). I vote for all of them!!! (It's a tie!)

OK, I need all of you trained professional Andy trivia persons out there to
give me some help. My pastor is a huge TAGS fan and as a surprise our youth
dept is planning on having a real "Mayberry Style" dinner for him and his
wife. Give me suggestions on what should be on the menu. So far I have the
following:
Kerosene Cucumbers
Mr. Cookie Bar
"No coffee, tea or punch" thank you
Aunt Bee's apple pie
Green beans, chinese style
Pearly onions
Fried chicken
What else??

I saw this on the "Good Clean Funnies" and thougth it was too good to keep from
the digest:
Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president of the United States,
was popularly known as "Silent Cal." One time at a party,
a woman walked up to him and said, "My husband bet me I
couldn't get three words out of you."
Coolidge replied, "You lose."

Put me down as someone who would have liked to grow up in a town like Mayberry.
But as Andy said, Mayberry isn't modeled after any particular town, just a
state of mind. But to those who think the early 60's were a simpler time,
maybe the mind prefers to remember the better parts of life.
While I have many good memories of the 60's, it's a fact that in school, we
were reminded around Halloween to watch out for people putting razor blades in
apples, among other things. As like Columbine, a student came into my high
school with a shotgun and shot up the place, killing an English teacher. A
president was assassinated. Young people were doing drugs and getting killed
in drag races. Mass murderers were in the headlines. A war was going on. I
could go on, but the fact is, if you lived during that time and go back into
your memory bank, you'll be reminded that the 60's wasn't such a purer simpler
time. That's why Mayberry worked in part, because it was a departure from all
that, and not the norm. Mayberry brought peace to a tortured world.

Say! I wouldn't mind having a set of jail keys either. What a great idea. If
anyone out there is into metal craft . . . I mean if one of the Gordon boys
can make a key then someone else should be able to. And don't try to fool me
with an old fork!
In regards to the post which listed historical figures mentioned on TAGS - how
about Duncan Phyfe?

I wasn't going to say anything, but now that you've lead the way, I'll
say this: Yeah! What's up with that?! I can't believe that "Man in a
Hurry" and "The Sermon for Today", the two episodes generally
considered by the intellectual types (which would disclude Floyd and
Goober) as being the two best episodes ever didn't even make the top
ten! This is awful curious! They are absolutely perfect episodes!

I found a few for the viewer that is looking for picnics. First one is Ellie
for councel. #10 The show opens at a picnicwith Ellie,Andy,Hilda
Mae,Barney,Aunt Bee and Opie. The next one is Threes A Crowd #59 I think
this is the show where Andy and mary take her convertable car to the
country to see the full moon and Barney tells everyone Andy is perposing to
Mary and the townspeople bombard the car and have a picnic right there. The
next one would be Barney and The Cave Rescue #108. Helen,Andy,Thelma lou and
Barney are at the town Picnic. The last one I can think of is Andy and
Helens Day #140. Barney makes a present of Saturday to Andy and Helen. I
hope this helps. W.V. BIGGEST FAN SUSAN

<< Have you folks ever thought about how fortunate we all are that Mayberry

innocent?
Imagine if it had been produced in 2004. This may be what we would see. . .

Related to WBMUTBB DIGEST, Vol. 2., No. 9, I LOVED the contribution of Ken
& Linda Anderson who compared Mayberry 1960s with what could have been
Mayberry 2004! Very profound, and very astute. As for me and my house, I
believe we'll stick with Mayberry 1960s-style, at least in the values and
feelings of our inner heart. Thanks.

Happy birthday to James Best, age 78.
This is our own Jim Lindsey in episode #3, The Guitar Player and #31, The
Guitar Player Returns.
Also birthday greetings to Mick Jagger, of the Rolling Stones, age 61.
You know Opie was a guitar player in a later episode.
I know this was a stretch.

Found some TAGS stationary at:
~~CessieLynn Sigs~
<http://www.wtv-zone.com/honi4me/MoreCreations5/AndyGriffithShow.html>
and I decided I would use it it in my emails today. Pretty nice, if I do
say so myself. No Gomer, Howard, or Otis pictured but that's okay. At
least Floyd & Thelma Lou are there as well as Opie, Goober, Barney, &
Aunt Bee. If you know of any other Andy Griffith Show Graphics please
post the sites here so we can check them out for ourselves.
ALso, if anybody knows how to make signature graphics & dosn't mind
making them for free would they mind making me a TAGS signature with my
name Marie on it & one that says "Hello"or Good day or similar
greetings. Thanks to whoever can make me one. If nobody can, that's all
right, too.

In my opinion, the #1 Episode of the Andy Griffith Show, should be "Man in a
Hurry" with Mr. Tucker. That episode always reminds me that despite the fast
paced crazy world we live in, that I can always go back to the "Mayberry" in my
life and say, "What's your hurry"!!!! Any body else agree?
