I have brought that argument up before, it may very well be Barney's bravest
moment. Usually he catches someone by accident or Andy catches them and lets
Barney have the credit to boost his self-esteem, but this was AFAIK the only
time (or likely the first time) Barney actually did something on purpose that
caught a crook.

I had a Mayberry Moment today that I guess was just about the best one I have
ever had because actually, it was my husband's moment. As most of you know my
husband and daughter are not big fans of TAGS as I am. Today we were driving
in front of our local police station, and a man in front of us just stopped and
made a u-turn right in front of us. I said: "Well, I am suprised at that
happening right in front of the police station!" All of a sudden Dave spoke up
and said: "Citizen's arrest...citizen's arrest!!" I just about lost it, I was
like a new mother who's child had spoken his first words. By the way it turned
out that the driver WAS a police officer!!!! When he parked and got out of his
car, for half a minute we expected to see Old Barn, then Gomer running after
him.

....you just go up an alley and holler fish!!!.....I said it and I aint' takin'
it back neither! .............................

I was born in 1947 and I remember milk being delivered to our house, the
neighbors knew each other and watched out for thier neighbors children. I
grew up in a suburb of Detroit Mi. We had no crime and the biggest thing
that happened in our high school was smoking cigarettes! Ah the good old
days! W.V. biggest fan Susan

Over the past several months, we developed a friendly relationship with one
of the waiters at our favorite restaurant. This being a small town, it
wasn't long before we found out he was living in a basement apartment owned
by a lady in our church. Sadly about 2 months ago, we missed him from the
restaurant only to find out he had taken a job in construction. Less than a
week later, we found out he had been kicked out of his apartment for a
"rules infraction."

The immediate response from everybody in my family was "Must have been
cooking in his room."

I was saddened to hear about Sam Edwards. In addition to Sam Muggins and
Lester Scobey, Sam was a member of Jack Webb's stable of character actors
with a number of appearances on Dragnet.

Here's a pretty cool article about TAGS!
http://www.tvparty.com/andy.html
Barney: "We need to manufacture some trouble so Andy will want to stay."
Floyd: "You being Sheriff is trouble enough.."

The '60s had both purer and simpler times as well as radical years. I attended
a small college in Ohio from 61 until 65, 4 years that were as Mayberry-like
as a college could be. The tumultuous years didn't start until after Kennedy's
assassination in 63. Vietnam began creating unrest in 67/68. College
uprisings began in Berkeley in 65. I've always thought of TAGS as representing
the early '60s, which is when it first ran on TV. And might part of its appeal
now be that we know the heartache that's going to follow in the next few years?

On the pastor's menu:
DO: make sure to include crab meat cocktail. "At least let's do
SOMETHING crazy!"

DON'T: Serve wild pheasant. Probably the most difficult wild game to
ensnare. Anything
big enough to move that rock and knock over that stick is bound to be a
might on the muscular side.

Hi Fellow Mayberrians,

Since day one there have been good times and bad times.

What I have come to treasure and cherish is we have a
warm blessed place to escape to for a half hour
through TAGS, We
have each other in this group. And, we have the freedom
to each lunch on the front porch if we choose.

I was not born in the 60's.... but, I'm very grateful
my parents brought me up in a warm, loving, smaller community.

Yes I lock my doors.... yes I have a dog....

But I would not trade the daily hometown experiences that
I have for ANYTHING.

A short mayberry -like story...

I was walking past an older gentleman... I smiled at him
and said You are walking so much better these past few weeks
( He had a stroke or something)

He smiled and pointed out the bad things-- I pointed out
the good things I noticed.

FOCUS on the positive
Be kind behind the eyes...

it's all how we look at things

Mayberry's Midwest Mocha Momma,
Erin

ps....
Thank you for notifying us on the passing of Mr. Edwards.
May God rest his soul....
and God bless all of you.....

On TAGSRWC.com's "Miss Crumps Blackboard" forum, a poster named 'Andy's
Favorite Dish' provided this link to a biography of Sam Edwards. The website
belongs to Sam's son, Bill.

>>>The episode lats night where Barney got into the car & drove it back to
the courthouse, was the the only time Barney ever truly caught a
criminal? Without Andy's assistance to make him look good?<<<

In "Bookie Barber," Barney was responsible for capturing the bookies in Floyd's
shop by disguising himself as a woman trying to place a bet (whose
daughter-in-law was just a beast!). Even though Andy made it to the barber
shop in time to assist Barney, the whole scheme was actually Barney's idea, so
I think he should get the credit.
