North Carolina has some mighty fine barbecue. In
fact,Lexington N.C. is known as the barbecue capitol of the
world. They're having their annual barbecue festival on
Oct.23 You can check this link for more info.

hello there,

PART I

Gibson's Wild West Spectacular came to Mayberry last night, not my favorite
episode but i cherish something in all of them. But i Really admired the Wild
West Show's advertising posters [one was given to Floyd]; i am a fan of the
west and TAGS is my favorite show of all time; just wondering, what are the
chances that one of those posters might still be available?? i'd love to get
one.

I thought Earle Hagen's music in this episode, as usual, was incredible!

PART II

i would love to see Earle Hagen's music on CD. i would love to get ALL OF IT.
his score's are brilliant and truly enhance the scene's. i feel that he is so
underated in the world of music.

also, i look forward to ALL Andy Griffith Show being available on DVD. i hope
they do a high quality version of it and it would be GREAT if some of the cast
members & writers would do commentary with it. Due to their age, sadly, i feel
we do not have a lot of time to get their take on all the stories and behind
the scenes fun. I'd really love that.

i'll keep checking back to your site.
thanks for lending an ear.

Clint Howard was in "My Dog Skip" with Kevin Bacon. That's a DIRECT link

I was so glad when I saw that the digest was back up and running, I was
beginning to have problems like old Barn, you know with that clock in my
stomach each day ....... tick tock time to get up, tick tock... time to read
the digest. Allan you sure are to be commended for all the
hard work you do to keep the digest on track and I thank you. I was wondering
if maybe we could get some more wise words from Calvin Coolidge to pay honor to
Allan for all the hard work he does on the digest.

I hope to see a lot of you at Mayberry Days this year!!

Thats pretty easy since Kevin was in the movie "The Demon Murder Case"
with Andy.
That then ties him to everyone who ever appeared on The Andy Griffith
Show since Andy was in every episode.

Sounds like a great project for a kids' Sunday School class! You could
probably find a mosiac kit at a store such as Hobby Lobby, or whatever large
hobby stores you have in your area, and then just use the artwork in the
episode as a guide. It wouldn't have to be an exact match.

Remember, even kids need a valve (just for pressure).

Well, This is kinda easy but: Kevin Bacon was in A Few Good Men
with Jack Nicholson who appeared twice in featured roles on TAGS.
First he was a husband who left his baby on the courthouse steps.
Then he was the accused burglar that Aunt Bea defended as a member
of the jury.

Also, Kevin Bacon was in Apollo 13 with Clint Howard, who, of
course, was Leon on TAGS. Apollo 13 was directed by Ron Howard, as
well.

I won't pretend to have known this - just found it with research.
Kevin Bacon appeared in the same TV movie with Andy Griffith,
The Demon Murder Case, a 1983 TV movie. Kevin starred as a young
boy who is taken over by demons who force him to commit murder.
Andy played Guy Harris.

As I've stated before (so glad you folks are so Mayberry
like in allowing me to repeat myself), I've been watching
"Perry Mason" reruns, and what a hoot it is!

The last two PM episodes, had: Mr. Flint (Frankie's pa)
and Ben Weaver (the original Mr. Weaver). They played
rich business partners. The second one had Luke Comstock
(he gave Andy that rifle in return for shootin' him <grin>
and Mryt "Hubcaps" Lesh.

There is hardly and episode that doesn't have a resident or
passerby, from Mayberry in it. Sure is fun (and sometimes
sad) to see them on another show...

I mentioned this on here a couple years ago and really need the space in my
garage for a new project!!

I have about $5,500 or more invested in this...it's a '61 and has NEW tires,
brakes (well...maybe 50 miles on 'em) and has had the engine (a 352) gone
through and everything that needed fixing there done too!!

The inside needs restoring but isn't in bad shape being origional...it has the
BEST "Mayberry door shields" you'll ever find on any replica...and their on
magnetic sign material for easy removal in areas where it'd be illegal to have
'em on!!

I'd take an all time low of $4,500 obo!!!!!!

Of course please contact me direct and not through the 'board here to avoid any
kind of moulage!!

Nicholson, who we all know made two appearance on
TAGS. Those are the easy ones. Any others?

Someone started this a while back and I mentioned that most big stars can be
connected to TAGS in less than 3 degrees, usually 1 or 2. But if you HAD to
connect TAGS to Kevin Bacon you can do it ONE degree - Apollo 13. And if you
don't know how that connection is made then you need to watch more TAGS.

Hey everybody. I haven't written in a while, just been reading and
enjoying. I have seen the 2 shows that had the carnival in them (1)Opie
trying to win the razor(2)Jerry working at the carnival, over the last
couple of days and was wondering if this was the only time that TAGS had
a theme to it other than a story in the Black & White episodes. It
seems clearly like it's the same carnival in town and was wondering if
these 2 shows were filmed back to back? Does anybody know? Mite be a
good topic. Well got to go and am counting the days down until Mayberry
Days. Horatio (Kevin)

Someone had written about barbeque in North Carolina recently. It's strange
that the Taylors or anybody else never seemed to grill or smoke meat outdoors.
I wonder what they served when the carnival or fairs came to town.

Here in the Hill Country of TX, BBQ is a rite of passage, and a science. Even
though TX is known for brisket, most of us are specialists with pork and
chicken slow smoking, using combinations of mesquite, live oak, pecan, and
apple wood to cook with (NOT propane or charcoal, heaven forbid). Memphis is
known for pork BBQ and Kansas City and Ft. Worth for steaks. Without getting
off topic, what is the favorite BBQ of choice in NC,

Before I answer, please note that I was a transplanted North Carolinian for a
while and that I am a "Carolinian-in-law," in that my kid and my money goes to
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ("What it was, was football").

But I've eaten a lot of Carolina "Cue" (as much as I can get my hands on) and
I've studied on the subject. The meat of choice is pork cooked over hickory
wood. In the ground's best, in a steel drum will also do. The important part
is not sauce, which is vinegar based and mighty fine, but the smoked and spicy
meat. (I'm speaking about Western Style, because I am not as familiar with
Eastern Style, although I like it. I am sure there are real Carolinians who
know much more about it than I do.)

what means do they use to cook it, and what are some of the best places and
sauces/rubs associated with the Mt. Airy area?

Back when I lived in N.C., the place to go in Mt. Airy was a motel restaurant
called the Blue Vue because of the outstanding view of the Blue Ridge
Mountains. There were references on TAGS to "that place out on the highway"
(not Morelli's, but that other place), the implication being that "stuff"
happened out there. (It was owned at least in part by a good friend of Andy's
from high school.) However, look for the place with the police cars in the lot
and the hickory smoke in the air. That'll be a good place for barbecue.

Amusing BBQ story: Many years ago I worked for a utility company that provided
service to Mt. Airy. The personnel manager was a yankee through and through.
He was in a neighboring town on a labor issue, and when it became lunch time he
and the local employees adjourned to a place called Roy's.

Sitting around the table, he listened as the locals ordered: "I'll have a
large tray." "Large tray." "Small tray." "Large tray." "Large tray."
"Large tray." Until it became his turn to order. So he asked the waitress for
a menu. She went away and came back with the menu, nicely typed and between
celluloid sheets with nice brace corners. It read: "Large tray $3.50. Small
tray $2.50. Pie 25 cents." :-))

He opted for the large tray, and, as if to show how little he had learned,
after lunch, he asked the waitress what kind of pie they had. (Some people
never learn.) After a long pause, she answered, "Choc'late." And the local
boys burst out laughing! If you go to Roy's, get the large or small tray and
the chocolate pie . . . and, of course, the (sweet) tea.

If I don't make it to Mayberry Days someone must write and tell me if the civic
club had the booth with barbecued chicken sandwiches. I got one once at the
Autumn Leaves Festival, and, once I got over the fact that it was a BBQed
chicken thigh--complete with bone--between two pieces of white breadand figured
out how to eat it, it was quite tasty.

Hey Aunt Bee,

Looks like ole Hurricane Ivan is headed for St. Charles. I expect Ollie and
Nora will pack up the boys and head to your place to ride out the storm.
Probably won't even call. You know how Ollie is. He probably even forgot
to turn off the radio and stove.

Andy, the only good news is maybe the storm will blow always that dad-burned
bread truck, and Aunt Nora will stop buggin you about her friend Racine.

Imagine that..fleeing TO North Carolina from a hurricane.

Home things don't get too wet there in Huntsville for the Newsome gang. We
do appreciate you Allan. Thanks for all the trouble rebuilding the mailing
list. I'll bet if Jan needed anything around the house the past few weeks,
she had the "call the man" while you were busy typin away in your
Barbershop.

I still can't believe that Andy is coming to Mt. Airy for Mayberry Days. I
want all of you who are lucky enough to attend to take lots of pictures and
notes and tell us all about it. Wish we could all be there. I've been
saving up to send my Opie's to College and just can't swing the trip.

All the best
