on it?
Thanks,

We made Mayberry Days but did quite a subdued schedule this time. Carol got
tired very quickly so we just did what we could and let the rest go.
We did make the statue dedication, so now we have been present when both of
them were dedicated! The area Mt. Airy has for theirs is quite appropriate and
will be seen by more there than the one here in Raleigh, and it will
definitely not have the vandalism ours has had.
We took a long country ride to the Rockford General Store and from the looks
of it almost didn't stop. I figured after going all that distance we may as
well go in anyway, and I am so glad we did! There are some items from the time
in which I grew up, like chicken coops, hog scrapers(Only a farm boy will
understand this one!) and other antique tools. There was even a sign which
brough
back memoried from years ago...Time to Retire? Buy FISK! Fisk was a very
popular tire way back when.
We bought us a couple of homemade apple fritters and RCs and sat outside with
them and let the little half grown black and white kitty mooch off us! Across
the road was the remains of an old hotel which was in operation in the late
1700s, I think the name of it was the Grant-Burris hotel. On top of the hill
was the old county courthouse, now a private residence but on the list for
restoration. It is a hard place to find but well worth the trip!
We always enjoy the trivia contest and congratulate Pat Bullins for making it
5 years in a row!
The parade Saturday is the best way to see all the stars and impersonators as
well as some nice old cars and some you wonder how they keep running!
But please folks...my wife had to sit to watch, and the crowd kept edging
more and more out until they were almost at the center line of the street, so
she
couldn't see hardly anything!
Col. Tim's is always a joy to be in, but we were disappointed "Elvis" had
such a short segment, but we realize he is also doing a show at the same time
as
Col. Tim's so he can't do but so much.
Sunday AM we left right after eating breakfast and headed on to Little
Switzerland on the Parkway, stopping at Whippoorwill Academy on the way, which
is
where Tom Dula (Dooley) is supposed to have gotten some of his education. His
headstone and paintings of him and Laura Foster are supposed to be on the
second
floor, but the place is only open from 3-5 on weekends so we didnt' get to go
in.
All in all, we had a fantastic time and are looking forward to next year!
Now, if we could just find a way to get the daily digest I would be happy
again! Some reason we quit getting it and after signing back on twice we still
don't get it, so I guess next stop is to complain to AOL.
Good to see all who made it and we will c u next year . .

I had a WONDERFUL time at Mayberry Days. I only have one regret, I had 2nd row
seats for the Dillard show on Friday night and like a BIG fool I left my camera
in the B&B room. If anyone has pictures PLEASE let me know. I would love to get
some copies.
It was such a treat to hear the boys talk. Rodney was a trip with the
harmonica. My heart overflowed with happiness.
