Hubby and I headed off to northern Indiana for a
lovely autumn weekend...

Part of the trip included a stop at a car museum, where
our dear ol' Andy had donated his beautifully restored
1935 Packard (1203 4-Door Sedan Convertible), that he
and Cindy toured around in. It's a maroon-colored car
that makes your eyes pop, mouth drop open and that vein
in your neck bulge!

Now I know I shouldn't have done it, but I ignored those
'do not touch' signs. I kept expecting someone to come at
me yelling "Citzens arrest, citzens arrest!". But I just had
to take the chance to touch the door handle that The Man had
touched so often! Folks, it was a big thrill! Really big!

While being lucky enough to attend Mayberry Days, my last thing to do was to
get Joey Fann;s autograph on his book The Way Back to Mayberry before the 8
hour drive back to Ohio. He was at the Thomas House B&B, about a one minute
walk from the Visitors Center. Upon walking up to this big house, the owner
greeted me with real southern hospitality and then brought me a BIG dish of
home made ice cream to eat while sitting on the porch with Joey and the big
porch swing. We had a very nice visit and it hit me that this is really like
the real Mayberry. What a great experience.

How about using Wally as the character for the letter W?

TAGS characters for each letter - however, I'm stuck on Q

( other than Queenie the cat ) and U and W,X, Y and Z. In the interest
of a

good night's sleep, can anyone help me?

OK - by now, there have probably been a million responses of "W stands
for Wally" . how about some other ideas:

Q - the Quincy family

U - Farley Upchurch

W - again, Wally; or: the Wakefields (especially, Josh - who married
Hannah Carter); Ellie Walker, her uncle, Fred (was Gilly any relation?);
Ben Weaver; Warren Ferguson; Mrs. Wiley; Doc Weaver; Emma Watson; Dud
Wash . lots of W's!

X - you got me there, too - best I could come up with was "Sheriff
PoindeXter" or George "TeX" Foley (maybe one of the gypsies had an "X"
name; or one of the Russian diplomats; or one of Count Iz vanTelecky's
associates?)

Y - Don Yelton

Z - Doc Zachary

I hope you sleep better tonite (just be sure to doze off before you get
to X!).

- Ed Mease (Leavenworth, KS)

Hello fellow Mayberry fans!

I’ve just updated my mini-Mayberry website with
a rare 1964 photo-story featuring Ron Howard and
Don Knotts entitled, “Opie’s One Man Posse!”
Check it out!

http://www.angelfire.com/biz/Mayberry/index.html

ALSO! I’m clearing out my collection of in-person,
HAND-SIGNED Don Knotts items, as well as many other
TAGS cast-signed items. Hurry, most are one-of-a-kind
and all are priced to move!

I also want to say THANKS to everyone that’s ordered
and commented on “THE REEL MAYBERRY FORTY ACRES
LOCATION GUIDE.” Yes, they’re still available! (And
Christmas is right around the corner, you know...)

http://www.angelfire.com/biz/Mayberry/index.html

Lots of luck to you and yours,

Joel R.

This is off topic from The Andy Griffith Show, but I thought that Andy
Griffith fans might be interested.
Andy was in a short-lived television series in the late 70's called
Salvage-1 where he played a guy who
built a spaceship out of junk and flew to the moon. This was a fun show
that I really enjoyed and
would love to see again.

I am a member of a Salvage-1 mailing list that is similar to WBMUTBB.
Recently, Joel Higgins' (who
was also in Salvage-1) publicist, Judith A. Moose posted the note below
to the list. I'm planning on
sending an e-mail to help the cause, and wanted to give the members of
this group the opportunity to
do so as well.

Take care,
Bart

Good Evening Everyone.

I found this group while looking for the theme to Salvage-1 and
after reading the messages that have been posted I think I may be
able to lend a hand in getting Sony to release the series. I am
Joel Higgins' publicist.

I already have a meeting scheduled with the powers that be at Sony
to negotiate the deal to have Silver Spoons put out and since that
too is Joel's series I can always toss this one in at the same
time. What I need for each of you to do is email me a message that
can be delivered to Sony/Columbia Tristar requesting that the series
be made available for retail markets. If you would please send the
messages to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I'll give it my best shot.

By the way, there are quite a few wonderful sites out there. Keep
up the good work!

All the best,
Judith A. Moose, President

In the episode, "TV or Not TV," am I wrong or did Andy refer to Goober as
Goober Beasley?

Long, looong ago, when I started my first job (doing
advertising for a department store) after college, I
met a buyer, a young woman, who was from Siler City.
She said her mother was a dressmaker, and she made
clothes from Frances Bavier. She said they were
sometimes referred to on TAGS by "Aunt Bee" as "my
Siler City dresses." I don't remember hearing such a
reverence but friends have said they remember them.
How about y'all?

I know Miss Bavier retired there, but I just wondered
if anyone can remember any such references.

Got to run. I am down here at this "college town" and
tomorrow we are headed to Mt. Airy.

On the road to Mayberry,

When I'm having trouble falling asleep, I indulge my fantasy of a
Mayberry theme park. I plan the various areas like downtown and the
outlying farms and carnival for the county fair; stock the merchandise in
the shops and set the menus in the various dining establishments. Try
it; it's great fun and works every time!

Last night when the fake TV folks were at the bank, I noticed the vault over
on the far wall, to the right of the cashier. But when Barney gets locked
in it, Mr. Meldrun's office is on that wall and vault door is sitting at an
angle on the back wall. That must have been a bear to move.

The Jeopardy contestant who missed the Barney Fife answer went with another
Barney character and I don't really recall which one it was (I was working
out at the gym at the time). I don't think it was Barney Google, seem more
like it was an old radio character.

U- Uncle Ollie

X--Ernest T Bass (that's how he signed his name before he learned to
write)

Y "You and Yer Mother" (Andy referring to Barney and his mother and
hats)
                                it's a stretch, I know

Quincy was the only Q I came up with also.

Z Wasn't there a Zeke somewhere, there has to be a Zeke in Mayberry
