Actually, the Jeopardy contestant who responded incorrectly said "Barney
Gumbel," Homer Simpson's drinking buddy on "The Simpsons." It was one of those
things where you could tell he knew he had the wrong Barney the second it was
out of his mouth.

Thanks to all who've sent in their Mayberry Days reports; I've really enjoyed
reading them!

It never happened. The part about a woman making clothes especially for
Frances Bavier MIGHT be true, but Aunt Bee never mentioned "Siler City
dresses" on The Show.

Thanks to all who answered my question regarding the gird your loins quote.
Now I'm off to find somewhere to slip it into a conversation. I might have to
pick a fight or something. ;->

We've got our 2004 Mayberry Days pictures posted now. We also have posted
some from this year's Mayberry Squad Car Nationals.

My husband and I went to a drag race recently and there were new "regular" cars
being displayed also. Trying to show off a little, I saw one vehicle with the
back doors opening toward the front doors and said "those are called suicide
doors". My husband and the sales guy had never heard the term. I just hope I
understood correctly what I read here.

Also, if I'm remembering correctly, someone in a previous post mentioned buying
TAGS dvds at a Dollar store. There is a store in Richardson, TX called Dollar
Tree and when I was shopping the other day I saw two ladies going through a
bunch of dvds. As they were looking, they were mentioning the titles and my
ears perked up when I heard The Andy Griffith Show. They weren't going to buy
it, so I did. It has three episodes on it and I thought it was bound to be
worth a dollar. I haven't confessed to my husband yet because, I feel a little
silly to admit this, we don't have a dvd player.

I don't know much about dvds, but if I can find a friend with a player I'll
watch it and let you know.

The contestant's wrong answer was Barney Gumbel. No relation to Bryant &
his brother Greg, but perhaps related to Otis Campbell, Barney Gumbel
is Homer's alcoholic pal on The Simpsons. I remember the character
going to A.A. but I don't know many episodes he stayed sober.

I've seen some good suggestions for "X". Now are just characters eligible?
I'm thinkin' of all the calendars in the jail cells with the days X'd out. In
fact, when Barney got him an arrest, didn't he X out a date too? And when Opie
and Andy became blood-brothers by the mark of the burnt wood that cooked them
there fish, didn't Andy make X-marks on their skin? Just my two, miserable,
measly cents' worth. ;-)........**Barn (Ron McLendon)

The wrong answer on Jeopardy was 'Barney Gumbel'.
As soon as the guy said the wrong answer he knew that it was wrong because
he started shaking his head.
The champion Ken Jennings said the correct answer, "Who is Barney fife?".
As of Friday, Ken Jennings has won over 1.7 million dollars on Jeopardy.

Hey to your Mom, Jeff. :)

Mayberry Days always reminds me of the motto of the Mercer County (Kentucky)
Fair and Horse Show. They always say it's "where you see old friends and make
new ones." Indeed that is the case at Mayberry Days. The best parts are the
familiar smiles and meeting all the new folks who share this crazy love for our
Andy and the Mayberry gang. :) I count Jeff's folks among the "new" friends I
made this year. You "old" folks know who you are. LOL

I get that same warm friendly feeling every time I "meet" up with my pals,
new and old, on the WBMUTBB list.

Mayberry says thanks and happy motoring!

Hello fellow Mayberrians!

I was wondering if someone could tell me what the password is to get into
the members only area of the website. I knew it before and it seemed
like it was floyd, but that didn't work. Thanks!

Amy
