I noticed a small article in the local paper about a festival to be held in
honor of Don Knotts in his home town in W. Va. I think it is going to be in
August. It gave the impression that this is the first. Anybody know any
details?

>>>I hate to bring negativity but there is an item on E-Bay now that is
probably a fake. According to Hawthorne Village, I was sent the entire
Welcome to Mayberry collection and there was no "Mrs. C's Bakery" building.

This same seller (heriberto7) is offering three other buildings which they
claim are part of the Mayberry Collection. They appear to be authentic
Hawthorne buildings, but they must have come from some other set, NOT the
Mayberry Collection.

I saw the note from Aunt Bee of Orlando about there being no bakery in the
Hawthorne series. And it got me to think about bakeries. Aside from Millie
working in one, I don't recall any bakery fronts on the streets or mentions
of bakeries in dialog. In regard to the one Millie worked in, did we ever
see the name on the window or hear it mentioned?

Come on, noticers, help me out.

We have been watching our DVD's and loving every moment! I did happen to catch
a blooper on Andy and the Gentleman Crook though.
When "Uncle Dan" has Barney step out of the cell to keep an eye on him Barney
is not wearing a badge. I asked my husband why Barney had no badge on and then
in the next scene there it is right there on his shirt where it is supposed to
be. I usually miss things like that, so I guess I'm a trained noticer now.

Just wondering if anyone is having trouble with the TAGS First Season DVD.
My new DVD player has a very difficult time reading the discs. Sometimes I
am unable to view them at all and other times it will load, but only have
reading the disc many times. Rather frustrating. All other movies I have
are fine.

The temperature was dropping,
there were snowflakes in the air,
the town choir was practicing,
there was joy everywhere.

Aunt Bee had been to Foleys,
Andy had gone to get the tree,
Barney was practicing his " ho, ho. ho's,"
as young Opie looked on with glee.

Floyd had his shop all decorated,
as did Howard at his house,
Goober was closin' for the day,
& tryin' to catch a pesky mouse.

On the other side of town,
lived Frank Myers, an old man,
had no family livin' with him,
just a rooster named Old Sam.

As every year passed by,
Frank would sit there all alone,
hoping someone would pass by,
& stop & share a quick " hello."

Little did Frank Myers know,
that this year would not be the same,
for his wonderful hometown friends,
this holiday were about to change.

It was getting dark & snowy,
when a knock came on Frank's door,
as he rose to find the reason,
Santa Barney let out a roar.

" MERRY CHRISTMAS "was the greeting,
as Frank opened up that door,
and in came Andy, Opie & Aunt Bee,
and a host of friends galore.

They all came by to give to Frank,
a special Christmas gift,
Of course I'm talking about their love & friendship,
that gave his old heart a lift.

As the snow continued to fall,
joy & laughter did abound,
for Christmas: Mayberry Style,
was present all around.

Christmastime is not just getting,
but giving to those you love,
for you see the greatest gift of all,
came from our Father above.

He gave the best he had,
He gave His only son,
so that you & I can rejoice,
for you see the victories won.

>From all the folks in Mayberry,
have a blessed Christmas day,
may your days be filled with joy,
as you travel on lifes way.

Hi All,
Being a fan of bad science fiction, I was just watching "The Blob" with Steve
McQueen (1958) I never realized that Anita Corsault was his girlfriend, Jane
(don't call her Janie Girl) in it. She really plays a fairly strong
character in it, not the screamin' and faintin' kind. Now I see how she was
able to
handle Andy, Barney, Opie and all those unruly school boys.
Thanks,
Steve
by the way, the opening title music is not your typical monster movie fare.

I too noticed the cut in the scene where Andy and the group is following Ed to
the hotel.
I had to rewind this and watch it a few time just to finally figure out what it
was that was catching my eye in a wrong sort of way before I figured out it was
that guy in the chair reading the paper. All in all it wasn't a bad edit.

As far as Aunt Bee of Orlando wanting to get to the good stuff the intros are
all on a seperate chapter.
All you have to do when the episode starts is skip to the next chapter and you
will bypass the into to the show and get right into the beginning of the show
itself. I was glad they did that. Some of my Star Trek DVD's are like that and
some aren't and its a pain having to fast forward and then trying to stop it
right at the place where the show starts.

Hopefully this message will post. I have sent two other in the past few days
that didn't go thru for some reason.
Anyone else having problems sending messages to the digest? I had to send my
list of noticing things several times before it finally showed up too.

After watching my DVD's and seeing Andy and Barn talk on the old Candlestick
phone at the Jail it got me curious to see if anyone made a reproduction you
could use today. (they do, simply search the internet)

But along the way of my search I found out something that I never considered
when looking at these phones.
The original phone didn't have a ringer in it. In order for it to work properly
there had to be a box, that it connected to, that contained the ringer and a
crank for you to ring central with. If you notice the wall phone that is in
Andy's kitchen you see it has the crank and ringer built into the box. I can't
ever remember seeing a ringer box for the courthouse phone tho.

Also these early candlestick phones wouldn't work properly unless the
microphone part of it was vertical or near vertical and that's the reason they
had that big heavy base so that people would almost have to keep it in a
vertical position even if they picked it up.

In the first season it seems everyone has an older type phone, except the
drugstore which has a normal 60's looking payphone.
Even Floyd's house ( in the Quiet Sam episode) has a candle stick phone. In
the "High noon in Mayberry" episode you see that Andy's house has a normal (for
the times) looking phone in the living room. Also Barney calls from a normal
phone when he is trying to sell everybody each others houses. But this was much
later in the series.

While flipping through the channels, I caught part of the 1958 version of the
"BLOB" with Steve McQueen. His girl friend turned out to be Aneta Corseaut,
Mayberry's Miss Crump. Looked just as good then as she did in the TAGS series.

I got curious to see if anyone made a reproduction candlestick phone and did a
search on the internet.

I found out that Crosley Radio ( www.crosleyradio.com ) sells reproduction
Candlestick phones like you see on TAGS with modern innards. They offer it in
black, brushed brass, and brushed chrome. These are the CR-64 models. They
also offer a lot of other old looking phones with modern innards.

Evidently they also made a CR-663 that is no longer for sale by the company but
can be found on the internet still for sale.
It was a much more ornate candlestick model, in brass only, that has a lot of
engraving on it.

These go for 50 to 60 bucks and you can find a lot of places that sell it by
doing a search for the model you want or just search for candlestick phones on
the internet. I found some cheaper plastic ones for sale but they came in
very weird colors. I'd want one in black myself.

I also found a site that sells the original phones themselves (500 bucks and
up). And what I didn't know, or never thought about anyway, is that the
original phone didn't have a ringer in it. In order for it to work properly
there had to be a box, that it connected to, that contained the ringer and a
crank for you to ring central with. If you notice the wall phone that is in

The name of the movie is "Blue Hawaii", 1961.
Howard 'Floyd' McNear played Mr. Chapman, the owner of the travel agency.
This Elvis movie is one of my favorites.

I sent my original post about the candle stick phones and found out from
Allen that my HTML encoding in my email
was why it was not going thru. So I rewrote and and condensed it quite a bit
and now it looks as if both of them wound up in the same copy of the digest.

Sorry in advance for the doubling up there.
