While watching the TAGS with Dolly the horse the other nite, I believe that
Dolly is not a mare but a gelding. I would have to see the show again to make
sure but a side view of Dolly kind of looked suspicious. I guess Lassie was
really a male also, but with all that hair who would know?
I'll quit horsin' around now,

>>>i don't have the new first season dvd's yet ... Also is there any clear
shots of wallys service station where a person can read what the signs all
say posted on the building front.

It seems like Wally's is in nearly every episode, but believe it or not, we
don't see the filling station until "Lawman Barney" (episode 70, in the
middle of season three). So, we'll have to wait awhile before we can see it
on DVD.

My last working VCR bit the dust this week, and since this is the age of
DVDs, I've decided not to replace it. Therefore, I am selling my Columbia
House TAGS tapes. I have almost the complete set, and I am selling them all
in one lot, not individually. These tapes include a lot of the color
episodes (which might never be released on DVD), they are of outstanding
quality, and as far as I know they all play perfectly except "Andy Saves
Gomer" which has lines across the picture that won't go away, no matter how
much you fiddle with the tracking. Here's what's on the tapes:

HELEN CRUMP: Andy Discovers America, Andy's Trip to Raleigh, Helen the
Authoress, Helen's Past

THE BEST OF OTIS: Deputy Otis, Hot Rod Otis, The Rehabilitation of Otis,
Otis the Deputy

THE LAW ACCORDING TO BARNEY FIFE: Barney Gets His Man, Lawman Barney, The
Legend of Barney Fife, Barney Comes to Mayberry

THE BEST OF GOMER: Gomer the House Guest, A Date for Gomer, Citizen's
Arrest, Andy Saves Gomer

FLOYD THE BARBER: The Bookie Barber, Floyd the Gay Deceiver, The Case of the
Punch in the Nose, Floyd's Barbershop

AUNT BEE: Aunt Bee's Brief Encounter, Wedding Bells for Aunt Bee, Aunt Bee
Takes a Job, Aunt Bee the Juror

ELLIE MAE WALKER: Ellie Comes to Town, Irresistible Andy, The New Doctor,
Ellie Saves a Female

OPIE: Opie's Hobo Friend, Opie the Birdman, Opie and His Merry Men, Opie's
Newspaper

THE SHERIFF AND THE DEPUTY: Up in Barney's Room, Barney and the Cave Rescue,
Barney's Uniform, Goodbye Sheriff Taylor

GOOBER'S GOOFS: Mind Over Matter, Goober's Replacement, Man's Best Friend,
Suppose Andy Gets Sick

DEPUTY WARREN FERGUSON: The Bazaar, A Warning from Warren, The Cannon, Lost
and Found

HOWARD SPRAGUE: Howard the Comedian, Howard's Main Event, Howard the Bowler,
Howard and Millie

MAYBERRY IS FOR LOVERS: The Perfect Female, A Wife for Andy, Man in the
Middle, Eat Your Heart Out

MUSICAL MAYBERRY: Barney and the Choir, The Mayberry Band, A Singer in
Town, Opie's Group

MAYBERRY CLASSICS: Ernest T. Bass Joins the Army, Malcolm at the Crossroads,
Dinner at Eight, The Education of Ernest T. Bass

GOOBER GREATS: Goober Takes a Car Apart, Goober and the Art of Love, Goober
Makes History, Goober the Executive

OPIE GROWS UP This one is crazy: The box says "Barney's Blunders," the label
on tape says "Thelma Lou" but here's what's really on the tape: A Medal for
Opie, One-Punch Opie, A Deal is a Deal, Opie's Fortune

That's 18 tapes in all. My asking price is $180, or $10 per tape, which is
less than half of what I paid for them. Shipping should cost less than $10
(media mail). I accept PayPal, checks, or money orders.

Thanks,
Paul

I looked over both sets of the TAGS season 1 DVD's I had and I could never find
anything on them about being made in Mexico

Neal Brower hasn't started on a second volume yet. In the meantime, enjoy his
fabulous lectures at Mayberry Days. :)

Can't afford a $10,000 Don Knotts/Barney Fife
screen-worn shirt?

How about an authentically signed Don Knotts
photo as Barney Fife for about $25?

Know someone who loves TAGS History?

How about an exclusive "Reel Mayberry Location Guide!"

Barney has officially proclaimed all items
ON SALE until Christmas!

A MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND YOURS!

I'm definitely late on posting a phone comment, but if anyone ever needs help
regarding the purchase or refurbishing of old phones, give me holler. I have
restored several old phones, including oak wall phones and candlestick units.
Phoneco in Wisconsin is great for restoration information and parts, but their
prices for restored units are very high. Ebay is a good place to look, but you
have to be very cautious. For example, someone selling an "original
candlestick" phone that just happens to have a reproduction receiver and
transmitter cone (nstead of the original bakelite) is worth over 100.00 less
than if the parts are original. Some dealers sell the reproduction parts in
hopes that uninformed customers won't know the difference. Don't hesitate on
buying one with some replacement parts. Just be sure you're not paying fully
price. In fact, on one candlestick phone, I actually use a reproduction
receiver and store the original. That way an "oops" from an an interested user
doesn't cost me in a big way. Bakelite breaks easily on a hard floor.

So candlestick phones are really fun to own. The best and most useful are the
candlestick dial phones from the 20s. These do need modern networks installed
to be fully functional. I have one in my university office with the detached
ringer box (I also have a regular push-bottom unit) operational. It's alway a
great conversation piece when I'm visiting with students. Finally, you can
still buy a good working candlestick for about 275.00, and rest assured they'll
hold their value (not like to go up much, though, in my opinion. Prices are
fairly stable). Perfectly restored, all-original units (mint, with dial) sell
for close to 500.00. If you buy one that looks good but still needs the
internal workings updated, you can also send it to Phoneco. They'll put it in
full working condition for around 75-100 dollars. So if I can be of any
assistance, let me know! Best, Mark from Missouri
