Two drugstores in the small town in Pennsylvania where I grew up had a lunch
counter where we could get sandwiches, soup, pie, ice cream, etc. They both
also had several booths.

The recent posting from Kennandlinda about Crawford's Drugstore reminded me
of a place in Shelbyville called Ralph's. It was a combination drug
store/convenience store and it had a little soda fountain in the back, along
with a
grill. A bunch of us window salesmen would stop in there everyday for lunch.
Everything they made was either fresh from the garden or freshly whacked off a
pig or cow. I mean it was extry good! Free refills on fresh lemonade or
coffee and you were good to go!
Sorry to stray off subject but I shore 'preciate y'all jogging my memory

Subject: Andy's House
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Last night on HGTV, there was a show about Hollywood
homes. Featured was a home in Toluca Lake that was
originally Bing Crosby's, and is the home that Andy
Griffith later purchased. They did mention that Jerry
Van Dyke bought the house from Andy, and there is a
non-celebrity couple living there now who have kept it
in wonderful condition. They also mentioned that Andy
planted a fruit orchard on the property in the
mid-1970s, which is still producing.

have always wondered about something when Opie took the soda fountain job
at Crawford's Drugstore. Goober made the comment about how well Opie did
when
he spread the mayonnaise on his bacon and tomato sandwich. Just wondering
where Opie would have fried the bacon for the sandwich. No evidence at all
of a
grill in the drugstore.
My husband and I owned a small pizza place. There was no, stove top to cook
the bacon for the pizza so I fried off several pounds at home and took it too
the shop. Maybe the pharmacists wife did the same for him. Barb from Ohio

1) I know I'm gonna be wrong, I know the episode was
on the other night, but I'm heading out on a limb
anyway. I thought it was mustard that Opie spread all
the way to the edges of the sandwich.
2) Question for any once-upon-a-time English majors:
Did anyone else see the title "long sentence" and
wonder why Faulkner had cropped up in Mayberry?

I stand corrected. You are right. Clara was the piano teacher, but Aunt
Bee was quilting next door with Edna Sue Larch when Arnold was faking
Opie's piano practice.
I gotta cut back on the allspice, I guess.

I lived in Jasonville, IN, pop. 3,000, and one of my greatest pleasures was
a bike ride uptown with my two sons for a samich at the Rexall! They didn't
have p-nut butter, tuna & ketchup samich's, but the blt's and phosphates
were good.
Opie wasn't working at the time, so Miss Ellie waited on us!

There is a very complete listing of "Cast Birthdays" listed on the
Mayberry.com web site. Please visit http://www.mayberry.com and click the "Cast
Birthdays" link. You can search for your favorite characters birtday. There is
also
some other information found in that listing but we don't like to talk about
it.

>>>Andy sold Ritz crackers, of course, but also A-1 Steak Sauce ("To me, a
steak is something miiiiiiiiiighty special...")
He also did several ads for Shoney's about 8 or 9 years ago; the ads were
great but had the unfortunate side effect of causing Cracker Barrel to stop
selling Mayberry items in their gift shops. Besides those already
mentioned, he also appeared in print ads for Breck shampoo and TV sets
(Magnavox, maybe), and a loooong time ago, he advertised Sun Crest orange
soda (he was a natural choice, since he made numerous references to a "big
orange drink" in his famous football story).
>>>Oh, and when Jim Nabors left for his own show, Gomer and Sergeant Carter
often did their own ads for Maxwell House Coffee. Anyone remember any other
ads?
A couple of years ago I saw an old commercial where Gomer invited viewers to
send for a free box of Jell-O. Just for kicks, I wrote to the address given
(a P.O. box), but the mail came back as undeliverable.

>>>Was Opie's middle name ever mentioned on TAGS? Andy's middle name was
Jackson. Barneys middle name was Milton, P, or Oliver. But I don't
remember ever hearing any middle name of Opie (or any other main character
for that matter).
No middle name is ever given for Opie or any other main character, except
Thelma Lou (but we never learn her LAST name), Hilda Mae (ditto) and Johnny
Paul Jason. If middle initials count, there's Ernest T. Bass and the
Reverend Hobart M. Tucker (most folks just call him Reverend Tucker, or
simply "preacher.")
--Paul
P.S. In other episodes, Barney joked that his middle name was "Tibbs" or
"Locks."

I am writing to let anyone know that wants a copy of the CBS Interview with
Andy, Larry King Live Interview, or The TAGS Reunion show that was on CBS,
that I have them all ( thanks to a member of the board. Thanks Joe.) and
would be willing to make copies for anyone that missed them or just wants a

nights at the big house . Of course that was the pilot to the Andy Griffeth
show . Does that count ? That's the only one I can remember that hasn't
already
been mentioned . I sure wouldn't want to be stuck in there----" could be

Hey all,
I was watching an episode of the Fun Girls, the one
where they visit the jail. Well, while Barney was
being accosted by Skip, where she was kissing him each
time they turned the ligh switch on/off...Barney says
to Skip, "Go home and work on your bathroom curtain."
What exactly does this statement mean? What is Ol'
Barn referring to?
God bless, looking forward to your answers.
Richard
