>>>Also, Rafe was in for ten days, at one point. Maybe there are others, but
I don't want to get locked up for loitering around trying to remember
them....
Otis certainly holds the honor of spending the most nights in the Mayberry
jail; however he never had to spend ten straight days like Rafe did.
Trivia time! There's still one other prisoner who hasn't been mentioned yet
who served a sentence ever longer than Rafe's -- can anyone name him?
--Paul
P.S. The Woman Speeder spent only one night in jail. At the time of her
arrest, Andy informed her that Mayor's Court would not be in session until
the next day. That may have been a fib on Andy's part; he probably
mentioned the possibility of locking her up in the hopes that she'd simply
pay the fine and go on her way, but she called his bluff and he then had to
follow through.

Subject: Opie's Drugstore Job
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I have always wondered about something when Opie took the soda fountain job
at Crawford's Drugstore. Goober made the comment about how well Opie did when
he spread the mayonnaise on his bacon and tomato sandwich. Just wondering
where Opie would have fried the bacon for the sandwich. No evidence at all of
a
grill in the drugstore. Also, I have been in many smalltown drugstores in my
life, but never came across one that served sandwiches and pie, etc at the
soda fountain. I suppose the pies could have been bought at the bakery and
then
sold. But still doesn't explain the bacon. Course it could be cold bacon,
but where I live, we always serve warm bacon on a bacon, lettuce, tomato
sandwich on toast.
Now I know I am nitpicking again, but just wonder if anyone else has ever
thought about this. This has always been one of my favorite episodes, as both
my
wife and I had jobs at one time working behind a marble soda fountain just
like the Opie worked behind. Brings back lots of great small town memories.

I mentioned all the General Foods products the Mayberry gang sold while the
show was still first-run on CBS, but I didn't mention the post-Mayberry stuff.
Andy sold Ritz crackers, of course, but also A-1 Steak Sauce ("To me, a steak
is something miiiiiiiiiighty special...") and endorsed at least one political
candidate in a broadcast ad. And he also appeared on camera to sell his CD's.
Don Knotts did commercials for Beneficial Finance and actually put his Barney
Fife uniform back on for a Bonanza Steak House ad that also featured Bob
Denver as Gilligan.
Oh, and when Jim Nabors left for his own show, Gomer and Sergeant Carter
often did their own ads for Maxwell House Coffee. Anyone remember any other
ads?

Was Opie's middle name ever mentioned on TAGS?
Andy's middle name was Jackson.
Barneys middle name was Milton, P, or Oliver.
But I don't remember ever hearing any middle name of Opie (or any other
main character for that matter).

I am a BIG fan of the Andy Griffith shows and have been for as long as I can
remember. In real life I am the same age as "Opie". I would love to talk to
Randy Moffett and his wife on the message 14 Randy sent about Andy's home that
they visited. The subject was Andy's House, Bed and Breakfast.

I was winging my poetry in submitting "What Mayberry Means to Me." and
submitted the draft. I made three (no tomato) grievous mistakes.
1. I didn't have my bucket on up-side-down. Stuff like that leads to
malfeasance.
B. I didn't have Schwamps name spelled correctly. My apologies to those
chapters (and descendants) of his namesake.
3. I also misspelled "electronal"; my apologies to that chapter (and any
electronal engineers out there). Must be my infrequent scribing and chewing
too
many sticks of gum at the same time. Thanks for not flaming me, y'all.
I was rolling down the interstate, coming back from a basketball game Friday
night. Game site is about an hour's drive and my co-official is one of those
PhD guys who's education was worth every penny. He asked me how I met my
wife.
I took up a good part of the trip how Andy Griffith/WBMUTBB contributed to
our first meeting (thanks, Suzan Duncan). He interrupted me as soon as I said
Andy Griffith and told me that Andy Taylor was the perfect (he said Perfect)
psychologist. This is a man, like Barney, who works psychologically with
inmates as part of his job. He said that TAGS, especially the black and white
episodes are how a person is supposed to handle situations. Or, in our words,
"act
like somebody". He referenced Andy's dealings with Barney, but especially
Opie, were examples of how a person should deal with people. ShaZAM.
No one person can take credit for all they accomplish in their life, and I
mentioned all the wonderful writers TAGS those contributed as well as bit-part
players. If Aunt Bee had had so good of ingredients, we'd never have had an
episode that tasted of kerosene.
So, honorable mayor, ladies of the women's historical society, distinguished
guests, friends and neighbors. I stand before you a humble man, all choked up
with humbleness and humility.
