Harriet;
Since we're mentioning C&W singers who are TAGS fans, I can recall that
Willie Nelson said that TAGS was "the greatest show ever".
By the way, does your cable company offer the GREAT AMERICAN COUNTRY
network? It shows the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday nights, with repeats
during the week.

I have seen that the last three or more times that episode has been
shown. I just compensate by saying the lines myself, but it is better
when Barney says them.

Actually the edit made that cut out that line is so they can show more
commercials. Also todays commercials are at times longer than in past times.
I have episodes shown on regular TV that edit out the last 30 seconds or so of
the TV Land episodes where as TV Land edits some during the episode to include
the last 30-45 second part that closes the show. This also was a shock to me
the first time I saw it and can be very disappointing at times. Kirk Daniel

I thought Thumper said " if you can't say anything good about somebody, don't
say
nuthin at all". His mamma told him to.
Might have been Calvin Coolidge or Mark Twain.

Can someone tell me real quickly what the name of the episode is where Andy
gives Opie and some of his friends (including Barney) a history lesson about
"The Shot Heard Round the World"? I am a fifth grade social studies teacher
getting ready to study the American Revolution, and I would like to use that
segment as an introduction on Monday.

Joe,
Still going with tidey -whitey's. Guess you are stating that only
'briefs' can be referred to with that name. In our family ANY
pair of undies, be them for male or female, that are white and
can be bleached are called 'tidey-whiteys' (note the spelling)...
I bet Aunt Bee was a user of bleach too <smile>....

Just letting everyone know I will be out of town for a couple days to attend
my sister's funeral. She died of cancer Thursday, and was a big fan of Andy
and Barney and the rest of the gang, but did not have internet access to join
our group. It was very fast, diagnosed in late October and over on Feb. 12.
Will be back with the group in a few days...

I must have had a bucket on my head when I typed in Flower instead of Thumper
who's mama made him say "if you can't say anything good about anybody, don't
say nufthin" in Disney's Bambi. Thanks to Andge who reminded me of my error.
Wouldn't want anyone to think poor Flower had been rude.

>>>In addition to the two mentioned, Andy is also in Boxers when Aunt Bee is
Baby sitting Evie Joy. He actually seems embarrassed about it.<<<
I sent a message to the digest the other day about the time Andy, in his
boxers, tells a bedtime story to Otis in his cell. For some reason, it must
not have gotten through (I've been having server problems lately), but several
other folks mentioned it, too. Anyway, one thing I said was that it appears
to me that Andy is embarrassed about being in his shorts in that scene. He
somewhat awkwardly crosses one arm over his torso and holds onto the other arm
as though trying to cover himself a little. I find this rather charming. The
culture at large seems to think modesty is an outdated concept, so it's nice
to think that Andy probably had a healthy dose of it!

Subject: TVLand and the "Boy Giraffes are Selfish" Edit
Date: Sun, 15 Feb 2004 07:43:44 -0500
As I've understood from other sources I've asked about this, TVLand has to
remove some content from the shows to accommodate their frequent/long
commercials.
And for the record, this edit in the "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs" episode has been there
for some time. TVLand seems to have made at least three passes through
playing all episodes of the series, and this edit has been there from the
first.
When I first heard it, I wanted to cry. That's the best line in television
history (my humble opinion, of course) and they screwed it up. Made me buy
the DVD with this episode on it. "...running around...looking out for Number
one..."
What's most ironic about this is that Harry Shearer (TVLand's frequent
voice-over guy who does the pre-show introductions) actually says "Boy
Giraffes are Selfish" in his intro of the episode. He (or someone) knows the
episode contains the line and recognizes it for a "call out", but the editors
missed it.
Egads, TVLand - Get your act together and fix this tragic faux pas! Oh, and
thanks for running TAGS early and often.

Subject: Hey folks.....let's drift back on Topic. THE RULES
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Friends and neighbors,
I want to first of all thank those of you that offered suport and kind words
to me in the last few days and weeks. That was and is very kind of you and it
means a lot to me. With that said, I want to ask that we try and focus our
discussions here on the Digest back on Mayberry and Mayberry related topics.
We've been drifting a bit of late and I've let it go but I think it's time for
us to try and get back to what makes our little corner of Mayberry the greatest
place on the web.
I would also like that ask that in the future, if I have to step in and tone
down a line of conversation, that everyone try hard not to "pile on." By pile
on I mean that at times we get that urge to raise our hands and be heard
agreeing with "that wasn't the right thing to say" or "we don't need that
here." I
understand that urge but lets try and fight it because the person that's
being piled upon...well, they won't feel too good after several folks have
landed
on their back. It's bad enough when one person lands on there...lets just be
careful not to join in on the pile.
Please, no one feel guilty of this...it's human nature to support those that
you agree with. Lets just try and do that off the list...you know, email
directly the person you want to support or agree with OR the person you
disagree
with. Keeping negative stuff off the Digest is our main goal. We want to be as
much like the "real" Mayberry as we can be.
Again, thank you all for being a part of this list....I for one love to hear
observations about our "home town" from all of you. Let's be sure is list is a
place where everybody feels free to tell us their stories about Mayberry
without fear and with fun in their hearts.
I feel like with the number of new members we've gotten lately that it's time
to restate "The Rules" for everybody. You old-timers might want to read
through this just to refresh your memories and I think it's good for all of us
to
try and remember these tried and true rules.---- Allan
From: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hey Everybody,
Boy, things have really been growing here in out little corner of Mayberry!!
Because of that I think it's time to remind everyone what WBMUTBB is all
about:
We all know what Mayberry is about but do we realize why it is that we all
visit there everyday? I know that the characters are great but more than that,
they're friends. We "know" these people and it's just a joy to visit them
every chance we get to watch them as they work their way through getting locked
in a cell because the door "clangs shut" or any of the other wonderful
situations they face. Things always work out in a wonderful way leaving a
smile on
our faces.
Mayberry is an escape from the day-to-day trials we all face. A short trip
to a place where every body cares about one another and where we can forget,
for a while, the fact that "real life" isn't as much like that as we'd like.
I started WBMUTBB back in 1990, along with several other good folks, and
since then I've tried to make it as much like a "corner of Mayberry" as
possible.
I wanted this place to be somewhere folks could go and forget about the
outside world and relax by reading about Andy, Barney, Opie, Aunt Bee, and the
rest
of our Mayberry family.
To try and make that happen I've required everyone who wanted to join to tell
us a little about themselves so we could get to know them just a little bit.
After all, in Mayberry everyone knew everybody else and how can we have a
community without having at least some idea about our neighbors?
I've also had a couple of rules here and I try to enforce them.
Of course Rule #1 is...you guessed it...Obey all rules.
Rule #2 is this: Talk about the things you like about Mayberry..not things
you don't like.
I know some folks forget this second rule sometimes and they don't really
understand WHY I think Rule #2 is important so let me just give you an example.
Let's say I were to say, "Boy, I really hate Barney. I mean, look how stupid
he is and poor Andy has to put up with him." If I said that (and meant it)
what are the first things that happen to you?
First you'd feel like, "Man, that guys a jerk!" Then you'd get aggravated at
this guy talking about your Favorite character (and friend), Barney Fife.
Even if Barney's not your very favorite character, you'd likely be upset about
this guy talking about your neighbor.
I've never heard anyone say anything like that about Barn but I have about
other characters and folks forget that just because they don't like a
particular
character doesn't mean that character isn't someone elses favorite. You see,
if I talk about your favorite character saying negative things about 'em it
takes your fun away.
I think that's enough about Rule #2 and I hope you all understand the rule.
It's not to take away from your fun but to encourage you all to tell us about
what's fun to you and share your good feelings with others.
We have something special here. It's something you don't find often on the
internet. No "flames", no "fighting", no "foul language." We have a place
that children and adults can come and enjoy themselves.
Mayberry is a wonderful place and I'm just glad to be a part of this little
corner of it.
Your Friend and neighbor,
Allan Newsome
