For those of you who don't have all three of the Mayberry-related "Biography"
segments from A&E (I am missing one of the three myself), A&E will rerun all
three Sunday night at 8/7 Central...

Barney chalks the car tires to show that the car was there at the time he
passed by, so he can check next round to see if it is still there, so he can
write them up for overtime parking. (Unless somebody yanks his chalk away from
him as he goes by!)

Chalking tires was a way to determine if someone was overparked. Police
would come along and mark the tires at a certain time and then return later to
see
if any marked cars were still there. If they were, then a ticket was issued
for overparking. Not sure what number it was as I don't have an official
police manual. Measuring stick was used to determine if they were parked the
correct distance from the curb. Warren was a stickler on that one.

P.S. I could I have forgotten the nickel joke. I have used that one many
times on my 3rd grade students over the years. Most of them fell for it.
Doesn't say much for poor Barn.

What about his talent to install surveillance equipment at Wally's
and the intercom system in the courthouse. "Wonder if it would be louder
with bigger wires."
He's a whiz with those electronal marvels!
He's also a bargain hunter--bought thelma Lou a fur for thirteen and a
quarter.
(That would also count as another time a quarter was mentioned. And I
think Andy
mentioned getting another" quarter's worth" at the shooting gallery.)
Haven't seen these episodes lately--hope my memory not failin me!

Ever notice that, in addition to all of its other fine attributes, Mayberry
has mighty fine weather. Rarely do we see Andy and Barn in their lightweight
sheriff jackets or Aunt Bee in her long coat. I can recall only once when it
rained in Mayberry. That was in the "Dogs, Dogs, Dogs" episode. Makes you
think it could be southern California. Seems it never rains there.

Boy, this is going to date me!!! In my little home town, before parking
meters, you could only park for a certain length of time in a parking
space. The police put a chalk mark on the tires of cars so that when
they came back around after a certain lengh of time they could tell if a
car hadn't been moved. Then you got a parking ticket. Mary Grace in

Lest not forget barney's ability as a "official shine taste tester". Once
with otis in the jail cell with the tape recorder trying to get otis to confess
& otis shared his shine with his friend barney and andy had to play the tape
for barney....lol....the other when opie was accused of setting fire to the
barn, he'd joined a secret club, and andy went to pay for the damaged barn
etc., that opie was supposed to have started by opie. since barney was with
andy
he found the "special water" and after several "official tastes" needed help
to the patrol car. barney was just thirsty. therefore "ol barn" is multi
talented. [EMAIL PROTECTED]
