Andy apparently has quite a bit of ownership over the rights to the Mayberry
characters; apparently whoever wants to make a "Mayberry" big-screen movie
remake would have to pay him for the rights, and he refuses to lease them for
that purpose (source: interview Andy did with TV Guide about the time he
appeared
on "Diagnosis: Murder"). So I think it would be safe to say that yes, they'd
have to pay Andy, and in fact probably had to do so for the DVD to be
released.

It seems that we all have that problem. I've had the game for a number of
years, but I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've
actually played it. Is there some way we can play it together in
cyberspace. I know we'd have some great games with each other? Anyone got
the kind of knowledge about electronal marvels to put something like that
together?

Subject: TAGS on DVD
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Just getting caught up on the good news about TAGS Season One coming out on
DVD. Finally! I agree with the others -- we need to support it strongly when
it's released. Like many others, I held off on buying the Columbia House tapes
because of the desire to wait for the DVDs. Now that they're on their way, I'm
ready to buy! Just for comparison, several seasons of the Dick Van Dyke Show,
with lots of extras, are available for $50-60 per season. Season one has 30
episodes on five discs at $47.98 (Amazon). We can probably expect something in
that range. Can't wait!

I, too, was very excited to get the notice about TAGS coming out on DVD. I
will certainly be buying any seasons that they put out! As for the price, I
don't know what other tv shows' season-by-season sets go for because the
only ones I've bought are the M*A*S*H sets (we have all five seasons that
are currently available). I *do* know that we've never paid more than ~$30
for any of the three-disc M*A*S*H sets, so hopefully the powers-that-be will
be reasonable with the prices for TAGS.

With all this talk about Mr. Schwamp (or Schwump), does Weaver's Dept. Store
have a mug or t-shirt with him on it? A mug would be nice then I could put it
next to my "Nip It" mug. It could say "Does anyone know this man?
Just an idea. Do I get royalties?

Subject: DVD Release
Date: Fri, 09 Apr 2004 10:11:03 -0600
I went to the website mentioned in the last email and "voted" for TAGS to be
released on DVD. I also added a comment that I would be willing to
pre-order the first season. Just something to think about when you're under
your bucket today.
Another thing about the price: I have every black and white episode and
most of the color episodes on VHS tapes. While I will mourn my financial
loss, I am going to quickly forget it and pass them along to others who will
appreciate them. There are several residential facilities for kids that I
may donate them to...even a halfway house or two (Salvation Army, Goodwill,
etc., etc.) that would be VERY thankful to have them because wholesome
entertainment is still desirable and sometimes expensive or difficult to
come by.
My point is that there are PLENTY of people you can bless with your VHS
tapes that won't decrease the number of Season DVD sets that will be ordered
(thus, not affecting any future season set releases). Plus, you can write
the donation off on your taxes and use your saved taxes to finance the first
few seasons. My point being is that your previous purchases won't be
"wasted."
I am going to rejoice in DVD-quality, retouched episodes that will far
surpass what I now have. And I will feel good that all my VHS episodes will
be blessing someone else. Any takers?

I personally cannot wait for TAGS to come out on DVD! My husband has MASH
on DVD, also. I think they were $40 a set at Walmart. Even if the TAGS
DVDs are more than the MASH ones, I'll still be there in line to buy them!
It is a dream come true!!! :)

Date: Fri, 9 Apr 2004 14:42:29 -0500
It's exciting to think we'll be able to buy TAGS by the season. Not to create
controversey, but I think being able to buy TAGS this way will be very
attractive, compared to the Columbia videos, which were grouped by theme, and
mixed B&W with color episodes. The DVDs will allow the B&W compelsion nuts to
order away with fervor. And don't bemoan the Columbia videos already in your
library. Those color episodes might be the only ones we'll have of such
excellent, uncut quality for a long time!
TAGS fams, get ready for some Credit Card Maintenance. Polish away and get
ready to order. (But don't rub off them numbers.........)

As I lay dying, from gluttony and sloth,
I took a ride to the tomb of the last man standing,
down the road from blood and sorrow,
about the bend from disbelief and hope,
just down the street from where reality meet dreams,
salvation's cuddle sack,
lamentation and vine.
The tomb of course was empty,
but where did He go?
to Hollywood I wonder,
To CD and DC, where common sense is needed most,
Hey, dear cynic, of course he isn't there,
if The Master ever was,
but please do not despair,
He is alive in those of us that need him most,
the infected prostitute barking her goods in front of the Alamo,
where Crockett still despairs,
He rests easy with the black man, who knew him better
than the white,
He rode with Freedom Train as far as Memphis,
and sent the others off to die,
He quietly weeps as we kill each other today,
for the Master takes no side,
how could we think we could pick him,
to be our hall of fame Coach?
no, that's not where his heart lies,
it is with the dead and dying,
the overdose in Frisco,
the botched abortion in Portland, Maine.
he takes his communion in all mental hospitals,
despite the diagnosis there,
he lies in the next bed at our shameful nursing homes,
unrolled,
with bed sores instead of a thorny crown,
for you see, he was never in that tomb, of long ago,
Easter Sunday, daylight savings time indeed,
he is only here, today,
when we extended our human hands,
to those in utter despair.

I was watching the TAGS episode the other day about the Mayberry town
celebration in which Mr. Moody was chosen as the honorary citizen because he
was
driving through town. He didn't exactly qualify by picking pockets and trying
to
rob the jewelry store but I was thinking of some folks that would have been
far more deserving of the honor. As I was watching the Dick Van Dyke show I
thought he would have made an excellent Mayberry citizen, and I thought of John
Ritter too. Too bad we can't have a little ceremony. Any other suggestions?
