We mentioned this once before, since it does seem like Mayor Stoner is
bossing Andy around as if he could actually fire him (which, of course, he
can't).
But we're assuming Stoner wants to punish Andy and Barney in other ways,
either through the budgetary process or through some kind of "report to the
governor" (which also assumes a governor can boss around a sheriff, which,
again, he
can't).

But we know Andy runs every few years because Barney ran against him at one
point.

Hey, for Schwump Appreciation Day, let's have a look-alike contest. I can
see it now, the winner will end up with Allan and David Browning making
appearances all over this great land of ours. He could be at a baseball
game where he would take the mound, and to the cheers of thousands of
adoring fans, he would smile and nod.

A note concerning the tapes and DVD's.... I signed with Columbia
House and am enjoying the TAGS tapes very much... It did take me
a while to get enrolled; I couldn't get their website to work and they
don't have a phone number to call, so it's all done through the mail.
But once I got enrolled, they have come regularly and I love them all!

You'll hear no complaining from me about the price. I just thrilled to
be able to purchase them. Sure wish I could get even more of the show
on tapes...

I am officially casting my vote for an official "SCHWUMP" day, sanctioned by
TAGSRWC of course. I would gladly drink rootbeer all day and nod to everyone I
see. It would be fun. (I might even consider a Mr. Schwump costume around
Halloween). Are there any members out there that might be willing to join the
cast of characters with David, Allan, Phil, Kenneth and the rest of the
gang...as Mr. Schwump of course...

What a fantastic idea.

Hey gang!

I now have available a DVD titled "Classic DONAHUE" from 1986 that features
48 minutes of Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, Jim Nabors and George Lindsey
talking about the "then" upcoming TV movie, RETURN TO MAYBERRY as well as
their years on The Andy Griffith Show. The quality is very good and would
make a great addition to your "Mayberry" library. E-mail me personally for
the price if you are interested in obtaining a copy.

To comment on Michael Creech's comments about the dvds. I agree, all us fans
really need to buy the DVDs when they come out, not only that but Iwe need to
buy them as gifts for others at Christmas. It will be very frustrating if
they only put out the 1st or second season. I think it has happened before
with other shows. However, I don't see the comparison with the Columbia House
tapes. The Columbia House tapes were about $25 for for episodes. That's over
$6 an episode! Even if the first season cost $60, it will only be under $2
per episode. I have a feeling they won't sell for that much. Not sure.

Boy am I excited about this happening. It is so frustrating to see tv shows
come out with full season dvd's, when the show is not even cancelled yet.
Yet, mayberry season one is not even out yet.

HAve a great day, everyone!

I say that those of us unable to afford the $50+ to buy an entire

Just kidding of course. My question, if anybody knows the answer, does
Andy get any money from the sale of the DVDs or does it all go to Paramount?

I believe Mount Pilot was in Pilot County, but that's reflecting
reality, not necessarily the show. MP seemed to change locations, too.
Andy tells Mrs Lesch that it usually only takes about an hour to drive
it, yet at other times, it's only a few miles away. Curious.

I, too have always wondered why Andy took "the business" from the
mayor. As a county official, Andy should rank higher than the mayor,
who was only a town official. But then, I don't know that much about
gov'ment. I do know that the postmaster outranked all of them. He's a

Dan,

You'll probably get a few responses on this. Jesse Pearson was famous for
playing Birdie in the film "Bye, Bye, Birdie." I'm sure this musical
performance is what landed him the role of Keevy and the role you saw on
GPUSMC. Not sure why his career never took off, but he died of cancer at the
early age of 49 in 1979.

No...Andy doesn't own the rights to the episodes any more so I don't think he
gets anything from them. He still owns the rights to the characters and their
likenesses (in most cases) so the Mayberry stuff you see for sale at
WeaversDepartmentStore.com he DOES get a fee of some kind for.

"If you want to have all 8 years issued (as I do), you've got to buy them."

I agree with Mike. Let's not let our initial enthusiasm be dampened by the
price tag. We have been wishing, hoping, and asking for this for quite some
time now. The only reason that I never bought the Columbia House tapes is
because I wanted the episodes on DVD rather than VHS. I suspect that other
people hesitated to buy the Columbia House tapes for the same reason. So when
the DVD's come out, let's all get out there and BUY, BUY, BUY!!

>>>They won't be cheap. I've purchased the MASH
season 1, 2 and 3 DVD's and if memory serves me
correctly, they were about $50 a season. MASH only
had 24 episodes a year and TAGS had 36 a year.
Quality wise, 8 episodes per DVD is about the limit.
Any more than that and the quality starts to suffer.
I would not be surprised if they are closer to $60 a
set and if they don't sell well, Paramount won't
continue to issue additional years. If you want to
have all
8 years issued (as I do), you've got to buy them. I
would hate to be reading a WBMUTBB message 18 months
from now from someone wondering why
season one was issued and that was it. You're not
going to be able to buy them for $15 a season<<<

Well, I don't think anyone is naive enough to think
this upcoming TAGS DVD set is going to be "cheap", or
at the very least, is going to be able to purchase it
for $15, or even double that. Depending on how many
total discs are in the set, it may retail for $60-$70,
but it will reasonable, comparable to other box sets.
Obviously, the occasional TAGS viewer is not going to
plunk down the money for it, as there are numerous
TAGS DVD's available of the public domain episodes,
and that may suffice for them. I have no doubt that
the majority of WBMUTBB members will eagerly buy them.

I can't help but believe that this series will sell
well, at least for the first few seasons, as the Andy
Griffith Show is recognized as one of the all-time
greatest television shows. It's sad and a travesty
that it's taken this long for this classic show to
finally start to appear in a season box set, in light
of all of the other TV-on-DVD junk that's sprung up
before it.

Chuck
