I hope everyone got to see this rare episode on TV Land the other night.

Unfortunately there was a great scene with Will Wright that was totally cut
out of the broadcast the other night. It is an exchange between Andy and Will
(Ben Weaver from TAGS) about Will's character taking $.50 a day rental from
Henrietta Perkins (Francis Bavier) for the suit her husband was buried in.

But overall the "TV Land Moguls" was a great show. A lot of good info on the
"behind the scenes" making of our favorite show.

Lots of luck to you and yers,

Gary

"These wonderful quotes got me to thinking about whether other
presidents were mentioned on TAGS. Possibly George Washington on the episode
where Andy tells the boys about the American Revolution. Then I began to
wonder how many other famous people were mentioned on TAGS. I can think of
Paul Revere, Rock Hudson and of course Mark Twain. Anyone else?

Kim - Wylie, TX"

George Raft, Glenn Ford, Johnny Unitas, Caesar Romero, Dean Martin, Gary
Cooper, to name a few.

I can think of two right off the bat. Goober & his impression of Cary
Grant & Opie talking about a Gregory Peck movie w/Andy. "But Paw. Last
time he talked like us" Andy: "That's the actor in the man"
Then of course, there's Glen Ford in that FBI picture Barney saw.

I think that little ditty was sung by Andy when he was playing with Jim
Lindsey one night. Might be wrong...but I don't think so. Sung to the tune
of Frankie and Johnnie were lovers....etc. "They were the law and they
didn't know .... fear?" The last word escapes me.

Help me out here!!

Hi All,
I don't remember the commercial but I sure do remember that song. It is my
favorite thing that they ever did on the show. I know it was done at the very
end of the show but I can't remember which episode it was. I didn't know there
was more to the song, I'd like to hear the rest.

Had a bullet for his pistol and had to keep
it in his pocket.

Let's not forget that Calvin Coolidge was the President at the time of Don
Knotts' and Andy Griffith's births. Much like Sheriff Taylor enforced the law
fairly but not overbearingly, President Coolidge believed that the Federal
government shouldn't excise to much power over American business. President
Coolidge was known for his extraordinary character more than his achievements.
Likewise, Andy Taylor was known for his positive character more than his
professional achievements. Calvin had a dry, Yankee wit and wisdom;Andy had his
southern
wit and wisdom. Calvin didn't say much in conversation or interviews. The
words in a TAGS script weren't as many as other sitcoms of the day. The First
Lady
was named Grace, and TAGS featured Mary Grace Gossage. (Well, maybe that one
isn't a good comparison). Contrastingly, Coolidge didn't give American farmers
a whole lot of economic relief. Sam Jones might take issue with that as well
as the other Mayberry farmers.
Be sure to purchase a "I do not choose to run" T-shirt from Weavers to
benefit TAGSRWC. They're directly from the Calvin Coolidge NHS.

Weaver's Dept. Store carries t-shirts with that quote - and they are currently
ON SALE. Look toward the bottom of the page at:

Kim, greetings from the other side of the Metroplex. Why isn't the Wylie high
school mascot the Coyotes. Wouldn't that be great - the Wylie Coyotes.

Anyway, I can think of Johnny Unitas, Sigmund Freud, Frank Sinatra, Thomas
Edison, Wright Brothers, Buzz Fluhart (just kidding), J. Edgar Hoover, Baby
Face Nelson, John Dillinger, Cary Grant, Edward G. Robinson, Chester and Matt

Subject: Lawman song

>>>I can't find another person who remembers a commercial from around 25
years ago that played funny scenes from the show while someone sang a jingle
about Andy and Barney. The jingle went something like this:
    Andy & Barney were lawmen
    bravest you ever did see....
>>>

The song was written by Barney and sung by both Andy and Barney in the
episode "Crime-Free Mayberry" (the tune was "Frankie and Johnny.") Perhaps
a local TV station in your area borrowed the song and made it into a
commercial to promote TAGS reruns.

"The Ballad of Andy and Barney" or "The Gangster's Mistake"
(Sung to the melody of "Frankie and Johnny")

Andy and Barney were lawmen.
Bravest you ever did see.
Warned every crook in the record book to stay out of Mayberry.
They were the law (Yes, they were the law),
And they didn't know fear.

Pretty Boy Floyd come a ridin'.
Dillinger, too, big as life.
They weren't alone,
There was Al Capone and a Mack called Mack the Knife.
They broke the law
Yes, they broke the law.

These are the only two verses of this tune that I have.
I am not even sure where I found this anymore tho it does seem incomplete.
Anyone know if there were any more verses?

Dapper Dan
Fly away Buzzard, Fly away Crow......
