Season 4 Andy and Helen--The Rumors start Helen appears in five episodes as a semi-regular and Andy's steady. Near the end of the season, plans are underway for a marriage, but its Barney first false rumor with Andy and Helen.
Andy also has a brief encounter with the "Prisoner of Love". Charlene makes another run at Andy and traps him into an engagement, by his role in a Divorce proceeding. Another flame entered Andy's life when Fun Girls Daphne appears and uttered "Hello Doll" the first time. She is unhindered by his relationship with Helen. Highlights: Kissing Helen in the Jewelry store. Rough spots: An apparent unwanted engagement with Charlene, a big fight with Helen over the Fun Girls. Rough night on Chamber of Commerce Dance night when Gomer appears to run out on Mary Grace. Barney's Girls--Season 4 Thelma Lou has six appearances as Barney's girlfriend. One of the most famous Date Nights is the Chamber of Commerce Dance, that Barney looks forward to dancing at all year. This time it's complicated by the presence of Thelma Lou's cousin, Mary Grace. All appears to go well, as they get Gomer to be her date, but due to a misunderstanding (about a corsage) , Gomer and Mary Grace hit it off, but Barney and Thelma Lou have problems. Thelma Lou gets to see Barney at his most squeamish (going into a cave) as well as his most heroic-rescuing Andy and Helen from a cave-in. Barney messes things up with Thelma Lou when the Fun Girls comes to town again, and Skippy is after him. Even though they try to innocently take them home, they are spotted by Thelma Lou And Helen. Barney blows it big time again when he thinks he's got Thelma Lou in his back pocket, and she uses Gomer to teach him a lesson. In this episode, Andy calls him out for two-timing with Juanita. This episode (Barney and Thelma Lou Phfftt) provides a beautiful glimpse into the future as Barney and Thelma Lou look through a display window and talk about their future home together, and Barney's den. Another double date is botched when Barney tries to surprise Andy and Helen, and instead of him buying dinner (such as catfish casserole) they go to Andy' house to get something "out of the icebox" where, in fact, a mistaken engagement party is waiting. Barney also has a brief flirtation with the "Prisoner of Love." Highlights:. Thelma Lou's pride in Barney after the rescue. Smooching with Thelma Lou in the back room of the courthouse (when he leave's Mrs. Mendlebright's place). Barney shouting in a crowed room to Thelma Lou "You're the only girl I love" Rough spots: Getting caught by Andy and Opie with lipstick on his face when he is staying in the courthouse backroom. Rough night at the Chamber of Commerce Dance. Getting spotted/caught by Thelma Lou (and Helen) taking the fun Girls home.
