Sam was a smart man..*** Come to think of it, I seem to remember Chrysler products being preferred on "Gomer Pyle" as well, as Sergeant Carter's personal car was always a Dodge. There was an episode where Carter had a beloved Dodge (or Plymouth?) convertible that was stolen when Gomer was in charge of it, then turned up at a building site where a wrecking ball crushed it. The owner felt so badly for Gomer that he circumvented the legal process and immediately bought Sergeant Carter a brand new 1966 Dodge Coronet 500. I remember another episode with Carter's car being a '66 Dodge Dart. Gomer took the wheels off of it to keep Carter from going somewhere, due to some kind of premonition. And in the episode where Gomer comes back to Mayberry, he leaves on the bus just as Goober, Aunt Bee, Andy and Opie pile out of a Plymouth station wagon that I never saw on TAGS. Maybe Gomer wrote back to Mayberry and turned everyone on to Chrysler products? (And yes, I know there was a '59 Dodge that zipped around the background during the early years of TAGS.)
