Last night, I was watching the last episode of Season 4, "Gomer Pyle, USMC," and noticed something odd. In the scenes at the Marine base, Sgt. Carter wore his belt *outside* the belt loops! Now, that seems pretty nonsensical to me. After all, if the belt isn't in the loops, it can't hold up the pants! The only reason I could figure for wearing the belt that way was a purely aesthetic one -- guess he thought the loops broke up the line of the black belt against his khaki uniform. However, near as I could tell, everyone else wore their belt in the loops.
I don't have any of the Gomer Pyle USMC season DVDs, so I don't know if Frank Sutton continued this practice throughout the series. Does anybody else know? Curious!
