Vic, I was noticing just recently while watching "High Noon in Mayberry" that this is the first episode (chronologically) where the mail slot in the right door appears. I believe I am correct on this. Now, early in this episode is the scene with the postman Billy Ray (Dub Taylor) insisting that he can't just hand Andy the mail but must put it in the slot because it's an "official receptacle." Barney gets so aggravated that he says something like, "Give some people a mail bag, and it goes to their heads!" I wonder if the mail slot was installed specifically for this scene and simply left there.
