Greatest Secrets in Mayberry
Yesterday I watched the Baseball Episode. ..one of my favorite color
episodes. At the end of the episode we see Helen's picture that shows
that Opie was actually safe. As she tears the photo, she and Aunt Bee
appear to make a secret pact never to tell anyone. This has to classify
as one of Mayberry's greatest secrets, and got me wondering..what are
the other great Mayberry Secrets?
To qualify for a "greatest secret" it has to never have been revealed.
(unlike a surprise party that we later see revealed) Also the true
facts of Seth Taylor would not count, as that was revealed as well. We
also all know who blackballed Howard Sprague. Many secrets were
revealed in Opie's newspaper as well.
It also has to be a secret among characters..not among viewers (such as
the identity of Mr. Schwamp-that is the viewers greatest secret)
So what other secrets still linger in Mayberry? It had to be addressed
in the show, and not omissions such as what happened to Ed Sawyer,
Opie's mother or other characters who disappeared.
The actual location of that buried treasure??
How Ernest T Bass got in and out of the cell by himself?
"How we make Johnny Cakes"-is that really a secret?
How about the Cave rescue that really didn't need to
happen!! Or other times Andy secretly protected Barney. (Capture of
Ralph Neal?)
What else are "tick a lock" facts/secrets known by no
more than two people??
I've been gone a few weeks. It's good to be back on
line in Digest/Mayberryland. Did anyone remember Barney's fishing garb
that he wore in the Lady speeder episode? (as another non-uniform,
non-Salt and Pepper outfit)
