I never read yet anywhere in my 18 months of Digest reading, the name
Arthur Malet. He is going to be 82 in 2 weeks. He made two memorable
Mayberry shows and he stands out as Purvis in Battle of Mayberry but as a
vagrant in Lost and Found, who can forget his memorable bit. he had that
goofy look, great comical features for buffonery. He reminds me to a degree
of Richard Jury. He had a great career as character actor in some films but
he had a great body of tv work. One film if you ever get to see it is
Convicts 4 1962. he's a storekeeper a peepsqueeks a milksop type from the
30s who is murdered in a holdup. Its a highlight and a drama for this actor.
But the vagrant in Lost and Found is so unforgettable. His far fetched story
of stealing that broach and do you notice Aunt Bee's most convincing
gullible look of believability as she listons to this hogwash. Its a classic
look for Aunt Bee. Then again that episode itself was classic. Aunt Bee all
upset with Goober and Warren in the kitchen. Also in Battle of Mayberry,
note Arthur Malet on the classic Mayberry bench out front with our Mayberry
men brooding over the true story of the battle. Arthur Malet just another
forgotton unsung hero who deserves attention. He's another grand Mayberry
resident who we saw or well he was a resident once and a bum the next.
Either way he's always a joy to watch and liston to. Happy 82nd birthday
Arthur Malet from Allan Newsome , our Mayberry readers and from me, Tom
Kessel Col.Tim's Protege reject. With the loss of Fred and Clarence Earp
(Dempsey) we are happy youre still with us. god bless you all.
